Trading for Jefferson: Player A or Player B?

All about youth/potential (with the exception of competitiveness). To that extent, I agree. But nothing about the playing-style/efficiency issues, which seems to be much to similar to Al for my liking.

He's 22, has a 9'5'' standing reach, great hands and vision, and will be making less than $4mm this coming season. Dude could round out into a fantastic facilitator from the high post, who's still a load in the low post, rebounds at an elite level, plays smart positional D and protects the rim competently (Andrew Bogut meets Zach Randolph).

I'm curious as to what you see Cousins turning into. Do you expect both above-average efficiency and high-volume production? Or, like Koufos, will he need to greatly reduce his usage to increase efficiency? I'm quite doubtful that he'd ever reduce his usage to increase efficiency, if that's what it took, but you know him much better than I do.

I think he'll evolve into a top 3 center in the league. Nevermind all the words .. To compare him to Koufus is totally retarded.. Seriously.

Thanks for the response. I agree this is his upper limit. I just don't think it's likely he makes it there. He still has to learn to shoot efficiently to be that kind of high-post threat, and he hasn't shown it yet. He doesn't even shoot efficiently in the low post at this point (he takes better shots than Jefferson -- he just misses at a much higher rate). Rebounding, yes, I think he's probably already there. I don't think rebounding is high on the Jazz's list of needs, however. Doubtful about the defense -- I see average at best.

But whatever; we disagree. I think Cousins is a bit overvalued and that Koufos is on track to be a solid NBA player. Of course I'd take Cousins in any case.

But here's the larger issue I wanted to raise: With the trend of the team we have now. What do we hope to get if we replace Jefferson and/or Millsap? I'm leaning toward efficiency rather than volume scoring/usage. I could be wrong. Maybe we still need an Alpha scorer. But unless efficiency comes with volume, I think in the long run that we may be better off letting Favors, Burks, Kanter, Hayward take more scoring responsibility.

He has a very high skill level, but lacks discipline (like Randolph, only with slightly different skills). Fair enough. But unless efficiency rises does it really matter? Hopefully it will for him.

Maybe my biggest concern is that our chief offensive threat will have poor efficiency. That just seems like a ticket to the 1st/2nd rounds at best.
