What ever happened to Hayward coming off the bench?

My memory is a little fuzzy on it, but I think it was because J. Howard got hurt. Someone correct me if I am wrong. We were playing pretty good with him coming off the bench. It just didn't last that long because he had to go back into the starting line up, once the injury occurred. The theory on it was that Hayward was better not playing with Al because Hayward could push the ball more and get more shots. It was something like that, right?

So I am wondering if its still in the cards for this year. I would like to see it again.

This is the lineup the Jazz should go with this year.

You might as well post yours as well to while you are here.

Mo/Tinsley/Foye
Burks/Hayward/Foye
Marvin/Hayward/Millsap/Evans
Favors/Millsap/Evans
Jefferson/Kanter

Bring in Hayward for Burks or Marvin early, depending on who might not be playing well. Same thing for Millsap coming in for Jefferson or Favors.

I think this starting line up would be better

Mo, tinsley, Watson
Burks, foye, murphy
Hayward, Marvin, Carroll
Favors, millsap, Evans
Jefferson, kanter

That way Marvin and millsap will tear second gems apart with foye bombing from outside. Favors makes up for Al's defense. Hayward and burks aren't ideal but I would like to see how they feed off each other. If they can hit 35% + from 3 they will be very hard to compete with.

Finishing the game with who everis playing better at the position.

I agree on the Jefferson Favors part, but not so much with putting Marvin on the bench. I like what he has done so far. We need that. He spreads the floor better than Hayward right now. Also I dont like Hayward at the 3 in the starting line up. Off the bench yes. Hayward is better at the 2 if he is a starter. Also Burks and hayward need the ball in their hands. Which would make it better to separate them on different units.

Kanter-Millsap-Marvin > Jefferson-Favors-Hayward?

Hayward has to start. He might be your second best player right now.

Burks absolutely should NOT start, especially with Al starting. Both are ball hogs and neither would work together.

The best starting five would be:

Mo
Hayward
Williams
Al
Favors

That gives you offense in the post, defense in the post, outside shooting, good ball handling, very goo defense. Gives you a bench of

whatever pg you can find
Burks
Williams/Hayward
Millsap
Kanter

There is a nine man rotation right there. The second unit has their ball hog as well (Burks) and the rest of the players can run the offense and play defense.

I have not seen burks as a ball hog so far this year.

Agree with your units. If you have Al/Derrick together, you have a scorer and someone who can concentrate on defense and cleaning the glass. Marvin and Mo are good outside shooters. Hayward can get to the line and can initiate some plays as well as getting out on the break.

If Burks and Millsap could be content with each getting ariound 30 mins next season, but coming off the bench, the Jazz would have a pretty lethal rotation. All that would be lacking is a young PG to develop behind Mo and eventually take his place as a starter.

I had big expectations on Hayward when he has been drafted...now I have the feeling he will be a big flop!

I am completely different. I remember right before the pick, I turned to my father-in-law and said, "I will be happy with whoever they pick, as long as it isn't Hayward."

He has completely surpassed my expectations.

you are forgetting Foye. You know he's getting 20 plus min a game at least.

Doesnt everyone remember how well it worked with Hayward off the bench last year? I also think he should be paired with Favors and Kanter he can help them because he is the best we have at running a pick and roll. Jefferson and Millsap can get their own shots.

There is a very good chance that Marvin is our best player this year, and if people think that it isn't possible, then they are really oblivious.

While Marvin looks very good, he doesn't seem to be someone who is going to be 'the guy' from a temperamental pov. But he will be filling up his stat-line, which I am grateful since I have him in my fantasy league...

He's not going to be a vocal team leader. But he could easily give the team a very efficient 16/6 - or more, depending on touches, and solid defense. Marvin is going to be the single biggest factor in terms of team improvement over last season. You look at Burks replacing CJ. OK, hopefully more consistency, and Alec gets to the bucket. Gordon = Gordon. But Marvin replaces Howard and Braille in terms of playing time. That's HUGE!

There is no way in hell Marvin Williams is coming off the bench. That much I know.

Yea that makes no sense at all. He is the perfect fit to spead the offense for the big men. Not only that but he's our best defender at the SF spot.

I agree with all of that.

Buttt......

This thread was supposed to be about Hayward coming off the bench. I guess no one caught that.

Anyways. I am with ya on the Marvin thing though. He is going to improve our team quite a bit
