What's new

Free Alec Burks

I am worried about Burks also. Unlike Kanter and Favors, who are guaranteed to get heavy minutes next year, there is no such light at the end of the tunnel for Burks. He has a journeyman shooting guard playing over him as well as a D-League hustler - who would not even be in the league if it weren't for the Jazz. What kind of message is this sending to Burks? The 12th pick in the 2011 draft? The problem is the Jazz don't need Burks - they are that good, and Corbin will be oblivious to this as long as the Jazz are looking OK and winning some games. Hopefully it doesn't come to Burks asking for a trade, he is oozing with talent.

2 minutes is not enough time for Burks. No matter what.

Even if you're pro-Foye over Burks, you should be upset a player with Burks's potential didn't even get 5 minutes.

According to my sig, Burks should have been a chucker by mid January. For this to happen, he should have the PT. Ty, I want Wes to be embarassed, so please play Burks.

Thanks,

I'm not. At all. Not even a little bit. I'm too ****ing busy being happy with the team to worry about one (unproven) player's playing time.

Burks IMO proved himself over summer camp and preseason, there is no way in hell he should be getting garbage minutes!!!

I think the Jazz made a mistake signing Foye. If he were a true point guard, I could understand. But he's not as good as Burks and he's taking minutes away from Burks. Does the Jazz brass see this as most everyone on this board does. I wonder what their thinking is about keeping Burks back like this.

I agree , we have too many wings.

Corbin in his post game interview also pointed to Hayward not getting back in the game because Foye was playing well ? Huh ? Do you have starters or not ?
The starting 5 led a Killer 3rd quarter, Hayward played waaay better in the 3rd than the 1st, yet Foye stays on. (Hayward only starter not to go back in. This sends a message to Hayward as well).

Corbin needs to give Wing minutes to Hayward (starter) & Burks. I would use Foye/Carrol after injuries etc.......

We need Burks & Hayward to be in the game in Key situations. Last nite we didged a key situation cuz it turned into a rout. So if that was a close game , Hayward rides Bench for Foye. Yea, that will help develop end of game skills.

This is not rec league with equal minutes. As others have stated, our core 4 will leave when they can.

Other rant - Time for Big Al to go. We always start games slow because Mo & Gordon are the only runners out there.
I want to develop Kantor & Favors more as well.

Oh well. I'm happy with the win. Want to keep chemistry.

Geez... Calm down everybody. Its just the very first game of a huge season. Foye & Mo played together within the 5 that made the huge run and they were both +19. Corbin played Tinsley over Burks cause he didn`t impressed wih Foye`s playmaking skills and when Foye & Burks played together Jazz offense was like a headless chicken at pre-season. I`ll still play him over Tinsley though and Ty`ll consider this more after this night. But its a long run, he`ll get the pt due to many factors (injuries etc.) & Foye`s performance which i think is not reliable in the meaning of consistency.

Right now the only thing Foye`s better at it than Burks is 3PT - which is a very important one, never underestimate it- and that`s why Foye getting pt and Burks not. Watch out when he can hit from downtown with high %. He need to work on that part of his game.

Carrol 16'...Burks 2'....absurd....
Carrol need to play i dont see hes getting Burks minutes (Gordon should stick with 2) and he deserved pt for what he has done so far he`s bringing energy, defensive presence in and playing his butt off every game, i love his attitude.

Loved the fight, aggressiveness and hustle of the team. Loved that the 2nd unit played a little smash mouth. That has always been more my style. Not only beat them but break them. That is exactly the type of play I see from Kanter. I see Burks as being that way on the O end as well. He will keep coming.

After sleeping on it I am going to take this approach.

Fantastic win and if Burks wants time on the floor then he needs to step up and make it to where they dont have a choice but play him.

I think its about defense. Right now Carrol/Foye are defensively better then Burks.

That being said, I think Burks is 2x the player that Carrol is and will eventually be 2x the player Foye is. But he needs to start working hard on playing defense. I have to think the coaches are telling him this if it is the case.

I also wondered if there was some beef with Corbin and Burks. Or maybe it's just Corbin being Corbin and choosing vets over youth regardless.

At this very moment in time I think it is debatable that he is not better than Burcs, I am 100% confident that Burcs will get better but right now I dont think he is better than Foye.

I was at the game and my voice is horse from yelling "BRING IN BURKS". It's obvious that the Jazz have no interest in developing Burks. They might as well trade him if they are just going to let him rot on the bench. If it would have been closer at the end, he would have got a dnp-coaches decision. It's a good thing I'm not GM, or I would have Ty on the carpet for that decision.

I agree. And Foye is every bit a chucker that Burks is. But like coach Johnson said on the post game, if he plays good d the coaches will let him chuck a few.

I have no problem with Foye getting minutes. In my opinion, it's not a Foye or Burks decision.

My problem is Tinsley got 18 minutes. And it's not like he was playing well either. He was horrible. Dallas didn't even pretend to guard him, yet he still missed all of his shots except for a layup.

Give those minutes to Burks and he finishes with 20 minutes.

Also Carroll's 16 minutes should have gone to Favors and Kanter (with Milsap getting time at backup sf). And then the minutes would have looked like this:
Jefferson: 28
Milsap: 30
Marvin Williams: 29
Hayward: 25
Mo Williams: 29
Kanter: 20
Favors: 25
Foye: 21
Burks: 20
A few garbage time minutes for Evans, Murphy, Carroll, Tinsley, whoever.

The minutes should look like this every night, with minor adjustments for guys playing really well or really bad.

No matter how bad anyone thinks Burks is, there is absolutely no doubt that he is much better than Tinsley, with tons of potential to improve.

The trouble is that neither Foye or Burks seems comfortable running the offense, at least not yet. Maybe when that happens, Foye will just play the point and Burks will get his minutes at SG.
