Do we still make the playoffs this year?

With all the whining going on, you would think we were on our way to a losing season. I dont think that's the case. We have played 8 road games thus far and we are 2-6 in those games. We have played 3 home games and we are 3-0 in those games. For a total record of 5-6. Its not that bad really when you consider we have new pieces and a practically all road schedule thus far.

I suspect we will grind this part out and get on a roll once we get to play our home games. The team will be much better at home and will have time to gain some cohesiveness. Kinks will be worked and things will be good again.

I think we eventually right the ship and make the playoffs again, and everything will be peachy in Jazz land again because thats all Jazz fans really expect anyways. Jazz brass will pat themselves on the back, and we will do this all over again next year.

So what do you think? Do we make the playoffs again?

I'm not sure anymore

Why? You and everyone should know by now that we suck on the road. We always have. Hell, we might even be better on the road than the Booz Dwill team. We werent even in a lot of those games back then. At least the ones we have played this year, we have been right there. Wait til we start hammering people at home and your tune will change

I do. Even when the Jazz are dysfunctional they seem to win more games on the road than the average team would in their position, and the fact they are close to .500 yet have played far more road games is a good sign for the playoffs. Though it'll probably be a 7 or 8 seed.

We can do it at 8th seed, but this team with a good coach has the potential to be 4-5 seed.

Agree. Almost .500 ball playing the most retarded offense imaginable. They basically cannot do but better going forward.

I hope not. It would give us another lottery pick and ensure we don't resign Jefferson.

i listened to spencer hall's saturday show yesterday and he was sharing a pretty good breakdown someone did for his site, using vegas odds to project which games the jazz had to have to win to get to 45, 50, 55 wins. his hypothesis is that it takes 48-55 to qualify. (for the record i disagree; the more good-but-not-great teams there are, that drives down win totals across the board. if more teams win 35+ games, then some teams in the high 40s have to drop - it's zero-sum, after all.)

but even if we buy that 48-55 is the key in, this study says that we're only off track by one game.

translation: we've mostly lost games we should have lost. it is hard to feel that way when we've been in games like @mem and @phi, but really, using just about any model, those are teams that should be able to beat the jazz at home.

dal - should have won
@noh - probably the one game we lost that should have been a win
@sas - should have lost
@mem - should have lost
lal - honestly, you could argue we should have lost this one but we caught a team in the middle of turmoil
@den - should have lost
phx - should have won
@tor - should have won
@bos - should have lost
@phi - could have won it, but honestly should have lost
@was - should have won

even if we factor bynum's injury in (which vegas wouldn't have) and call @phi a "should have won", we still have lakers win which probably could have gone either way, per vegas. so we'll be fine. if we didn't lay an egg in NOH, we'd be a very acceptable 5-5. we all said before the season started that as long as utah hung around the .500 mark by early december, the piper will pay them back with home games after that.

Its been a sloppy start, but we're definitely not the only team out west struggling right now.

Too early to tell anything either way, really. The season is still extremely young.

Yes but it will be in spite of Corbin and the Jazz will not have as high of a seeding as the could earn.

Yes we will, but half the board will, again, whine the whole way saying we need to NOT make the playoffs and get a higher pick..blah blah, organization of just trying to make playoffs, blah blah, dont want to win it all, blah blah..and so on...but yes, we will make the playoffs

Thanks for sharing the breakdown.

By the way, what did you disagree with?
