College Hoops 2012-2013 Thread

Hey guys,

I'm starting a thread for college hoops. I'm a little surprised that a thread hasn't started about this yet. So far, I've only caught a few games. Mostly Notre Dame games, however, I did catch an Indiana game where they looked Impressive. I'm also probably going to catch a Utes game when I get into town in a few weeks. I cannot wait to get back to Utah. More importantly, I enjoy reading the board's input and perspective, no matter how off the wall or blind it can be at times.

PKM- You have full permission to take this thread over with your Kentucky-ness, just know that I am not crazy about the SEC. In fact, I loathe them. In almost every case, I cheer against them.

Also, has anyone seen a Utes game yet this year. I've read decent things about Loveridge, and I want to know if I should get excited for any reason.

I just realized I need to say something controversial to spark debate. So, Utes are better than BYU and stuff. :)

I learned from OB that goodteamism cannot be an attribute of one good player. They can be goodplayerists but cannot be goodteamism so I wouldn't get too excited.

:) I have heard good things about Loveridge, I wouldn't mind seeing him play, but that would require me going to a Ute home game and that would require effort. Too bad even the Pac12 network won't put the Utes on tv.

As to BYU, I saw a few games and they did not look good as a team against the decent competition teams they played and lost both games. Maybe it was because of the cross country trip to NY? Davies looks pretty decent, but Haws is legit.

I don't really trust the early polls because they are way fluid and highly favor teams that have historically done well with a few exceptions. Tune in to the rankings when conference play is in full swing.

Notre Dame is absolutely whooping Chicago St.

I must admit that this is the first time I have even heard of Chicago State. It's nice to see Notre Dame handling business when they are supposed to. I may check out the Jayhawks game tonight, see how they look this year.

I absolutely agree, however, good players help in building a good team. Apparently the Utes recruited a couple of decent in state kids for next year as well. I'm just hoping that the Utes don't finish in the basement of the Pac-12 this year. I would consider that a good year. Improvement as a team is a good thing.

I got to check out the Jayhawks last night. They look good as usual displaying wonderful ball movement and great transition passing. I only saw the first half, but they looked like they could do a better job at finishing around the rim. Also, their seven footer is a blocking machine (averaging 5 blocks a game). I doubt he can keep up those numbers throughout the year, but he'll give them great low block defense throughout the year regardless.

Tonight... #14 North Carolina is going into #1 Indiana. I'm stoked, and I think I'll be able to catch the whole game.

Good thread, Whisky. Oh, and I don't mind the SEC thing .. I hate the SEC too. I'm not a conference guy, just a UK badass. So you're a Notre Dame fan??? So I guess you'll REALLY be loathing UK this coming Thursday .. emiright?

Damn you.

Gonzaga, final 4 this year mark it down.

As always, yawn. (Meaning they always get hyped and always fall short)

I'll back the Gonzaga pick except I'll take it a step further and say they go all the way, they are just so solid and deep everywhere. Karnowski/Olynyk/Dower/Elias Harris as your rotating frontline is about as good as you can get in college . Olynyk was the big unknown, but watching him, I really don't understand how that guy was so insignificant his first two years(I guess he was playing behind Robert Sacre et al...but still). He moves so well for somebody that's 7 feet and he's skilled and can sky. Edi, Bell, and Stockton are all guys that can shut down people on the perimeter. Pangos is a baller.

Of course, with all that said, BYU is still going to beat them down in Provo but that will be one of the few loses for them this year on their way to the championship.

How much we talkin' Duck? ;)

Man, Indiana's crowd is nuts. They want this game tonight.

Random question: Is the Zeller on Indiana related to the Zeller that played on Duke a couple of years back? He's pretty good.

It's good to see you in the thread. I'm looking forward to Notre Dame's upset on Thursday. :)
