Fix the D and Jazz are a contender

Jazz have 6th best offense in the League. This is very good.
Their defense is however 21st/30. Bad.

I think a big reason for this is interior defense, poor pick/screen movement by the bigs, and lack of help from big men when the guards get beat.
I think BIG AL is too valuable to the offense to be benched...the offense is built around him and it is a good offense. I also think that he is a true PF, and is being played out of position as the starting center. I also believe SapMan would be GREAT as a spark off the bench and a big weapon opposing teams fear and moan when they see him coming in the game for the 1st time. Think about the Manu effect the Spurs had and Jason Terry in Dallas.

So my proposition to fix things: START SEXUAL FAVORS (when he is healthy). I would also think about starting Kanter. Move BIG AL to PF and bring SapMan as a super 6th man off the bench. Thank you for reading my thread. I think this will set the defensive tone and improve the D a lot. Favors is a beast on D guys trust me.

Jazz have the potential to contend like 2004 Pistons.
They are one coach away from being a "much better" team.

Without the D we are just a contener.

That's funny.

I'm not convinced our offense is at contender level unless our D is VASTLY improved. We're one game away from a poor shooting night for this to all be blown up.

Let's get better D and see some consistent great nights of shooting before we get too excited.

Translation: **** yeah! We gonna shock the world!!!!

Two things I think might help us take this group to the next level.

Seperate Big Al, and Sap first. Add Burks to the rotation, reduce minutes of Foye(or give him time at the 1).

You can have bad shooting nights, but defense is all effort and you can still win games with bad shooting and good d.

agree mostly. but i dont think defense is all about effort. a lot of it depends on the schemes and philosophies of the coach as well as the personnel the coach uses and the personnel the GM brings in. for example I think BIG AL is one of the hardest working players in the NBA. but he has to do so much on offense and then on D he has to play out of position and then has to play D in a way he isn't capable of (hedging out on picks, switching to quicker players, etc) that i almost feel like he is not being put in a position to succeed on that end by TyCo

no trade needed except for some back up pf and center for kanter and favors when they start. so trade sap and al for something more useful or some money to keep the youngsters at hand after their contract expires OR top 5 pick.

again why trade both.
wouldnt a rotation of kanter favors millsap and some random avg(below avg pf/c) be better than Kanter favors and 2 avg(or below avg) pf/c?

trading both sap and jeffie is overdoing it.
trade jefferson for a pick and a jaron collins clone

it would be nice, but I think millsap wants out.

Defense is not all about effort. It certainly helps. Big Al will still get owned a lot even if he tried harder on defense, but he would get more stops.

Foye plays really hard on defense, but he's just too short to guard elite and/or bigger 2 guards. I'd really like to see Foye play more at the 1. He is a good passer.

I would like to see more of foye at the 1 as well (just so burks can get regular minutes) but we know it will never happen as long as 2 of our point guards are healthy.

Tinsley is playing well enough to deserve minutes, IMO. We should do him a favor and trade him to a contender. Then, trade Al for the best PG possible.

Start Favors and the D takes a big step forward.

That is the main thing that pisses me off about Big Als D. I do not see him trying. If you are trying and jsut not very good I will give you a little leeway because you are trying and you are fighting.

Pisses me off every time I see Al just watch a guy go past him.
