What would you give up now to have a shot at a championship later???????????????

Some of you want to tank the season and get a good draft pick. Some want desperately to get rid of one of our bigs so Favors and Kantor get more minutes. Some want to force our idiot coach to play the young players. Some of you want the young guys, that are our future, to get more playing time together. Some of you want a young point guard to grow with our young core. Some of you want to take a chance to go for the championship, instead of always being satisfied with making the playoffs. The question is are you ready to give a very good deal to another team to accomplish these things?????? My trade and plan I believe accomplishes all the above.

Here is my trade and my plan. Paul Millsap is a free agent and is as good as gone after the season, so I am not counting this as a big lose. Mo Williams is injured, a free agent and we would hate to lose him, but he is not the long term answer at point guard anyway. Now the one I really hate to lose is Gordon Hayward, but you have to give something good to get a starting point guard with NBA experience. Before you look at the trade, let me give you the whole picture of where I am going with this. We tank, for those that can’t stand that, or let the young ones play their hearts out trying to win getting much needed experience = tanking. We end up with a poor enough record to get the best small forward/power forward coming out of college Alex Polythress 6 ft. 8 in. 239 lbs. from Kentucky, with our pick (projected around pick 7). With the Golden State pick, we get Trey Burke the point guard from Michigan.

Our line up next year would be:

PG – Branden Knight (Kentucky drafted 1st round), Trey Burke (drafted 1st round and he may end up being better than Branden), Alec Burks
SG – Alec Burks (drafted first round), Kevin Murphy
SF – Tayshaun Prince (Kentucky first round pick), Alex Polythress (Kentucky will be drafted 1st round), Marvin Williams has a player option and he may stay (drafted 1st round), resign free agent DeMarree Carroll?
PF – Enes Kanter (Kentucky drafted first round), Derrick Favors, Alex Polythress, Jeremy Evans
Center –Derrick Favors (drafted 1st round), Enes Kanter, Ante Tomic or some defensive free agent?
We can use our 2[SUP]nd[/SUP]round pick to fill in our roster as needed.

Corey Maggette becomes a free agent and we let him walk after the season. He is not currently starting, so Detroit has no problem losing him. Tayshaun Prince has 2 more years on his contract, which will allow for Alex Polythress to gain experience. Hope our idiot coach will play him over the veteran as soon as he is ready. This forces Corbin to play the young core more this year, and sets us up to be a power house team in the future. We let Big Al walk and use his salary to lock in all our young talent. We will have a team full of good ball handlers and shooters, so we have no need for the black hole.

Change in Team Outlook for Detroit: +9.5 ppg, +2.8 rpg, and +3.4 apg (Hey we're tanking live with it).

Outgoing Players
Paul Millsap
27 year old , 6-8, 253 lb. F-C from Louisiana Tech
14.6 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.6 apg in 30.1 minutes
Mo Williams
30 year old , 6-1, 195 lb. G from Alabama
12.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 6.7 apg in 31.4 minutes
Gordon Hayward
22 year old , 6-8, 210 lb. F from Butler
13.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.2 apg in 26.5 minutes

Incoming Players
Corey Maggette
33 year old , 6-6, 225 lb. F from Duke
5.3 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 1.1 apg in 14.3 minutes in 2012-2013
Tayshaun Prince
32 year old , 6-9, 215 lb. F from Kentucky
12.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.3 apg in 32.4 minutes in 2012-2013
Brandon Knight
21 year old , 6-3, 189 lb. G from Kentucky
13.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 4.6 apg in 32.3 minutes in 2012-2013

Ok let me know your thoughts. I would love to have the above team going forward myself, and with all the Kentucky players on our roster I think I know one poster that will approve maybe. Even if Brandon Knight currently does not have great stats he is young, plays on a poor team and will improve. At least we would have a 3 pt. threat at the point guard (.401 percent this season and .380 his rookie season). No longer will the Jazz be the team that settles for just trying to make the playoffs. Now this research took me over a half day, so if you like it give me some rep. darn it.

I like your outside the box thinking and appreciate the hard work you put into this, however, your proposal fails to address possibly our most glaring deficiency of the Jazz...coaching. Even if we added Durant, LeBron and CP3 to our roster Corbin would find a way to **** it all up. No team coached by Ty Corbin will ever win a championship or even sniff anywhere near it.

Don't know if this trade is worth it.
Jazz give up three starters for two aging vets and a PG prospect.
No guarantee Jazz get Polythress.
Jazz may get Polythress anyway by making no moves.
Jazz may not want to take on a long term contract of Prince.
Just doesn't seem like the killer trade Jazz seem to be waiting for.

back to your question, i'd give up anything on our roster and future draft picks if it brought a bona fide superstar on a 3-4 year deal.

then you can start talking about how to have a shot at a championship.

If i knew for sure that we would get polythress and burke in next years draft, then i definately do this trade.

I love the lineup for next year that you have us at.... With the added bonus of getting burks, kanter, and favors experience and playing time.

So yes i would do this trade. (also i would like to see brandon knight with burks, kanter, and favors.)
Basically it would suck to lose hayward, but we would get another young player (knight) back in his place so i like it. Plus knight was drafted higher.

I'm not seeing a championship from this trade. To me Knight doesn't cut it as a pg, and the other two past there prime. I'd rather have Mo at pg, and Millsap is not as good as gone, all be it I'm not confident he will be back. In order to get him to resign he'd have to buy into coming off the bench, as I hope Favors and Kanter can take on the added roles. Then your biggest blunder is trading Hayward! Are you kidding me!! He's still very young and still developing, and needs time to develop his floor game. Yes, I consider myself one of the first to call Hayward an Allstar player, and still have confidence he can get there. The reason he has been inconsistent is he's being asked to be a spot up shooter, it's not his game, he's a slasher playmaker. He needs the ball in his hands to get into the flow of the game. I'm hoping that once Al is gone, the Jazz will go back to being being a pick'n roll team. I just see the ability in Hayward to be great here in Utah. It would be a travesty to trade those three players including Hayward for prospect that isn't looking like he will develop into a playmaking pg and prince and Maggette who are past there prime.

Sorry if this comes off as mean spirited, but this is one of the worst trade ideas ever on this board. Both Hayward and Sap are worth more then those three by themselves.

Not to mention it would be really really dumb and asinine to pull off a trade with the expectation of being able to draft specific players. Not going to happen more then likely

I just saw how many times you wrote the word Kentucky and feel obligated to approve of the moves.

These are some valid concerns.... however, you act as if the OP is saying to trade mo, millsap, and hayward for knight, maggette and prince and nothing else.

In actuality the OP was saying that the jazz make that trade, and then play burks, kanter, favors, and knight major minutes... then draft polythress, and burke next year.
Of course we dont know what picks we would end up with or who we would draft, but the OP is presenting a hypothetical situation where we end up with a line up of Knight and burke at PG, burks and murphy at SG, prince and polythress at SF, Kanter and favors as the primary 4 and 5.... with marvin, and carroll coming off the bench..... plus we would have to sign a few free agents as well.

Lol, then continue to be called a Kentucky homer, which I know you hate. Lol...

It was a joke .. I'm an insane fan of UK, but speak to the players strengths and weaknesses fairly and objectively. I'm okay with being called a homer, as long as it's in the correct context.

Bring on the onslaught!

It doesnt matter what we think as fans. Jazz management will never make a move that would "tank". Its just not happening. They are going to press on and take their chances with this championship contending line up. I know that sounds stupid to you and I, but its the truth. Its not a joke either. This is how they think.

haha...that's funny. (part in bold)

Probably right hack.

However, the OP's trade proposal is basically hayward to detroit for prince, knight, polythress and burke + more experience and playing time for burks, kanter, favors.... Since millsap and mo williams have a pretty decent chance of being gone.

If the hypothetical situation happened like the OP says then that is a great trade for the jazz.
Jazz lose hayward (and millsap and mo, who we might lose anyway)
Jazz gain prince, knight, polythress, burke and experience for our remaining young guys. (plus maggette, who would be gone after this season)

Can we somehow get a new coach in the deal? Lol, you are probably right. carroll would start over burks, and marvin would get to play before polythress ever would...... Plus tinsley or watson would probably start ahead of brandon knight and trey burke.

I like the thinking but I see 2 flaws right off...

1- why poythress? He needs some seasoning from cal. I am not a fan of his work ethic right now and I don't see him being an answer to a championship.

2- there is no way Burke will be available for the jazz with the gsw pick. Unless the tankers start to lose.

Brandon knight has not shown the ability to run a team effectively at the next level. He is still a shoot first pg. I would say no to this trade.

With all the Kentucky players involved I thought this might be PKM as an alt.

Ya I know. I was joking too. I love your insights, and have never thought your insights to be homerish. As someone who isn't as knowledgeable about the many potential draftees I hang on your every post in the draft thread.

I agree with all of that. Only thing I'd nit-pick is the Poythress work ethic thing. It's similar to Darius Miller. He's a hard worked, great kid, honor roll student, but not driven to drive a stake through the heart of the competition. He works hard, but plays like he wants to be a 3rd/4th option .. when he should maybe be the 1st.

Sounds like Marvin Williams v2.

Could be. Kids got top 5 talent/skill/ability and right now I'd be weary of taking him in the lottery, at all. Calipari has started one on one coaching him so maybe he'll light the pilot and Alex will take off.. I'm not overly optimistic, but am obviously hopeful.
