Marvin

I see the guys got talent, but where is it? Why is it not showing? Perhaps if he was moved to the bench with the Haywerd he could showcase some more of his scoring ability and talent we all thought he could bring.

Darius Miles averaged 15 points per game once, Marvin Williams has a jumpshot. He should be averaging far more than 9 points per game, but I feel this is highly regarded to more post play than wing play. He played with Joe the Schmoe and J Smoove...

I think he is fundamentally solid.. but I do think it'll be next year once the get accustomed to our system, the chemistry, etc before he can really shine. Plus he has had all sorts of injuries this year.

He's still pretty solid though IMO.

Marvin mostly wants to be a spot up shooter on offense which contributes to the no-movement everybody gets bent about. He seems to be a lot more active when they get him involved early with a post up or cut on an inbound.

He also has a lot of value in a small-ball lineup playing the 4, he runs really well and would probably beat most big men down the court.

I am down on Marvin, however I heard a brief interview with him on 1280 and the thing that struck me is that he acknowledged the fact that he hasn't been preforming his best and that once he recovers from injury he would work to be better. Has Millsap ever acknowledged that he isn't playing well? I don't think he has. Foye didn't earlier in the season (what slump?) I'm sure that some will think less of him for this but I believe that it shows perspective and a willingness to try and improve. I'm not off the bandwagon yet, but I am leery and am starting to wonder if he's an injury risk.

He would excel as a Sefalosha/Batum type player, if he could just play D and spot up in the corner on offense he would be a great asset

He plays with Jefferson and Milsap at 90% of his time. His offensive touches are severely limited.
When he does defend out there, he does a damn good job of being tall for his position and not letting people Foye by him.

I think he's a solid rotation player, nothing more nothing less. Ty isn't using him the right way IMO. I think we need to post up Marvin a lot more. I think we need to use him as a stretch 4. All he's assigned to do right now is spot up and shoot.
Better than any wing we had last year and the year before that save Hayward.

^ True, people are giving their hopes up on Marvin way too soon. Like Hack, per say. Guy seems very professional (minus jailhouse tats), and I could see him playing into being a B-Russ for this team if he gets his game together. I'd love to get Jefferdaughter off this team though, our offense could flourish.

The way I see it though is that Corbin doesn't want Jefferson gone, because then he'd actually have to coach instead of telling his players to run 100 post plays a game.

It has nothing to do with his skill set - although his mid-range game, back to basket game and ability to create his own shot are shockingly unrefined for a player with his experience.

I just don't think Marvin is a very intense guy. He'll fall into good games here and there because he's an elite athlete; but for the most part he's just happy to be a background guy who can still collect his millions.

I don't dislike the guy but I hope he opts out after this season.

I had hope he would excel in a jazz offence, an the truth is under sloans offence he would have. but since corbin dosent have as disiplined of an offence marvin wont ever do well here.. thats a jgolds 2bits for ya.

It is hard being a Jazz fan, I tell ya. Do our own players believe Al Jefferson should be the cornerstone of this offense?

He has such tremendous talent, but it seems like he has no grit. He is very unselfish to a fault. I think Ty runs very few plays for him and he mostly is a bail out player when nothing else works.

I like Marvin. He just does his thing. He could always do more, but he hasn't done enough to make me hate him yet.

I live Marvin, but I think he's criminally under or miss utilized in Corbin's 'system.' Get rid of Big Al, open the offense up, run plays for other players, such as Marvin, and I think he'll do much better.

The big mystery to me in all this is all the love Corbin's giving Foye. He's this year's Raja Bell. I wouldn't be sad if Foye were shipped off in a trade, but I would be disappointed if we gave up on Marvin so soon without giving him some kind of actual role in the offense, other than to pick up Big Al's leavings.

After watching him shine in preseason I am dissapointed but not that surprised. He doesn't do anything amazing, ever, but plays good defense on SFs. He has about an even +/- rating nearly every year, which is a lot more than Al and Foye can say.
