Insomnia Sucks

So last night I had my first firsthand experience with insomnia. Slept maybe 40 minutes last night, total. That crap is for the birds.

On the plus side I was able to unpack the rest of my kitchen, living room and pantry of my new place.

What do you do when you can't sleep?

Whine to other Jazzfanz posters that also can't sleep about how I can't sleep. Actually, the only night I haven't been able to sleep in recent memory was the night after a big meal this past Thanksgiving. And whine away I did.

Anybody that does have insomnia though, I don't envy you. I might even take a drug addiction or something over that if I had to pick a problem to have. I'm a complete mess when I don't get enough sleep.

Well it has only been one night and today will be another long day. I am hoping I pass out tonight.

I very rarely have insomnia. When I do I usually strategize about my fantasy basketball teams or watch TV. Kudos to you Stoked for being so productive.

I basically skip a night of sleep every other week or so due to insomnia. I used to get really stressed about it and it that made it much worse. I have found I just do something I enjoy with the time and catch up the sleep later. When I stress that I am not getting enough sleep or I have to get up early and I am going to be tired it makes it much worse than I start to have a string of insomnia nights. I suppose I could be productive but I have started to just enjoy this time where the world is quiet and I can do whatever. Reading helps me go to bed sooner but I usually play video games, watch tv or surf the web.

I could fall asleep at 7 every night, my wife on the other hand cannot fall asleep until 4 or 5 every morning ... she tries to guilt me into staying up with her but I cannot physically do it anymore. I pass out around 2 and let her do whatever she does in the wee hours of the morning

Better not be sexual guilt.

I'm lucky - I usually fall asleep within 5 minutes of hitting the pillow just about every night.

Once in a while though I'll wake up around 3 or 4 am and my mind is racing and I have a some difficulty falling back to sleep. But those nights somtimes come with lucid dreams - I've actually been able to develop them within the last 10 years or so. Those can be cool.

My sleep schedule was so messed up in college that I'd have a hard time making it to my 11 am class. I used to fall asleep around 6 am and I remember I could hear the neighbors going to work and the birds chirping outside. Things have improved since then and now I fall asleep around 2. Progress, baby.

I post on web sites like this. Or play video games. Or read.

I used to suffer from Insomnia a lot. Having my life in order was a huge cure for it. I generally only have those nights now when I'm stressed about something. Usually work is what keeps me up.
.
But when I'm having those occassional periods of insomnia it is generally a few nights in a row and not an isolated event. So if I have a problem one night I'll drink one beer or cocktail to relax and get my mind off of problems and go to bed a little later than normal to be sure I'm extra tired.
