Playing Time post-deadline

Stifle Tower

Punch Bowl Re-Filler
Well, nothing happened...as most of us expected/feared.

I don't expect changes in the starting lineup...that would be too much to ask. But does anyone think Jefferson and Millsap were getting huge mins to enhance their trade values?
Now that the deadline has passed, my hope would be that K O'Lindsey has Corbin cut the mins for those two by about 5 each and give them to Favors and Kanter. Derrick needs to be averaging in the high 20's and Kanter at least 20 mins.

As for the wings, let's hope Burks mins are safe. Watson needs to be sent to the bench with Burks playing point behind Tinsley until Mo comes back.

Not gonna happen.... main reason we didn't trade was how good the team is right now and the FO will just tell Ty keep doing what your doing.

As usual Ty will play what gives us the best chance of winning.

Minutes will be based on "Match ups"

I think Millsap's minutes come down a bit, so that he and Favors are in the 26 - 30-min range. I think Al gives up a couple extra minutes per night for Kanter. If Burks keeps playing well, he'll get a few of Foye's minutes.

Marvin Williams may continue to start just for the sake of consistency, but his minutes haven't been that high lately anyway.

Unless your name is Kanter. I'd love to have Ty sit down and steriaght up tell us what he is, or is not, seeing. Why does he do what he does? None of this bullcrap answers for reporters. Real, honest stuff.

There will be no change in the minutes for the bigs.

The biggest change I can see happening is Burks continuing to get the amount he's been getting recently.

IMHO, I believe the starters will actually start getting more minutes for the playoff push. I hope I am wrong, but this is how this organization has been ran for years.

All the people that said the vets were playing so much because they were being "showcased" for a trade are going to look pretty stupid now that there can be no trades and the vets continue to get the minutes.

Yup lol. Wasnt it Franklin that said we couldn't reduce Al or Paul's minutes because we needed to keep their value up?

I said they have no value and teams will not give anything we want for them. They laughed.

I get the last laugh since we now see that they have neutral value. Hardyharhar

As far as playing time it's all dependent on injuries. As long as Mo is out Burks will see some time. Once he's back it's DNPs. Favs and Kanter keep rotting as well while the players who won't be here NExt year will get the majority of minutes. I'm stoked.

Just because there was no trade doesn't mean there was no value.
Based on the rumors, I'll bet the Spurs initially offered Splitter, Mills and Jackson for Jefferson. The Jazz probably said that wasn't enough and countered by asking that Leonard be the centerpiece. Then the Spurs may have come back and wanted Burks or Hayward thown in. Kind of makes sense due to Jefferson, Splitter and Jackson being 30 game rentals. Neither team wanted to be left with nothing to show. I'm sure a similar scenario unfolded with the Clippers. Naturally, KOC would have just stood his ground and told those teams if they changed their minds before the deadline, he'd take their call; otheriwse, he wasn't budging.

And numerous trades could have been had the Jazz been willing to take on multi-year contracts for mid-level players. The key is we already HAVE those types of guys in Mo, Foye, Marvin Williams, etc. If we make a deal or acquire a FA, it better be a starter or a quality 6th-man type: Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks and likely Jefferson OR Millsap with Mo Williams and TBD at the point. There's a core of 7 and you can add Foye and Carroll to that group as complementary players. I'm not including Marvin because he'll be gone after next season. Carroll has outplayed him and the emergence of Burks will put Hayward at SF for longer strectches. If an acquisiton is made, that player should be at least as good as the Core-7 listed. Ideally, better than several of them. Obviously, PG remains a key concern moving ahead. But that's the direction the franchise needs to take to step it up to the next level.

There's no reason to play Al and Paul as much unless they are convinced they are indispensable to our "success". They might think that.

Hope everything you say happens, fear none of it will.

Though I at least hope Burks keeps his spot in the rotation. Looks like Carroll will be the odd man out, which is totally unfair to him since he's earned PT over Marv, but that's how Ty rolls.
