Zach Lowe sticking up for our FO (intentional rhyme) Thread

Taken from a written exchange between Simmons and Lowe via Grantland

Simmons (4:10 p.m.): So there you go. Somebody should make a coffee table book of e-mails/tweets that Hawks fans share with each other after an atrocious Josh Smith 3. I would totally buy that. Hey, Zach, let's quickly hit the teams that disappointed us because they didn't do anything. I have five.

Let's start with Utah. You mentioned them already, but I'm now operating under the premise that Kevin O'Connor was kidnapped and replaced by one of Sam Presti's spies. First of all, the Kevin O'Connor I knew never would have given up Devin Harris's expiring deal last summer for two years of Marvin Williams, a.k.a. The Worst Starting Small Forward Alive. And second, they have $26 million in expirings with Jefferson, Millsap and Raja Bell, as well as a logjam at forward … I mean … what's the long-term plan here? Re-sign everyone? Start over with the young dudes? I'm just confused.

Lowe (4:15 p.m.): Stay tuned. They have a ton of flexibility over the summer. The "doing nothing" course will anger fans who dreamed of Eric Bledsoe, but it's unclear if Bledsoe was ever really available to them, and they can always sign-and-trade Paul Millsap this summer. Keeping Al Jefferson over Millsap would be a shaky decision, but let's give them some time. Maybe they couldn't find an offer that brought in long-term money attached to a player they actually wanted to pay.

Then on twitter:

What are people slamming Utah today going to do in July if the Jazz nail a sign-and-trade and/or their general offseason?

I await your confirmations.

I wonder if the pg the jazz like in the draft, if he's gone before they pick, maybe they can entice the Clips to give them Bledsoe for just a first and still keep Millsap and draft a big. With there other pick.

Who are we going to land in a sign-and-trade? Kaman? Richard Jefferson?

Simmons is god and Lowe is so politic even though he knows that Simmons is % 100 right too. We gotta have traded one of Al or Millsap no doubt about it. Being jazz fanz means waiting to see something happen again and again. Of course the result is nothing. I am really jeaolous of rockets and Darly Morey. He brought the youngest players and let them play with the cap flexibility. I really wished we would be in the same position.

I really agree with the why the hell did we trade Devin Harris for Marvin Williams. No matter how anybody tries to spin it, it was a terrible trade. No, it wasn't worth a shot. Thats the argument that everyone likes to make. Marvin sucks, period.

Where was all the flexibility and cap room nonsense then, when they decided to pull the trigger on that one?

Hypothetically, maybe we could do a S&T of Millsap AND Marvin to L.A. for Gasol's expiring. We dump Marvin this way, get Gasol for one year who can be interchangeable with Favors at the 4/5, and allow Kanter one more year to develop as the 3rd big, without killing his confidence if he and Favors are shaky starting together.

I don't know if that makes sense though. Gasol may get too many touches.

I actually like that a lot. Gasol could either have a good year with Utah, and give us a good chance to re-sign him as a cheaper veteran (assuming he likes his time here), or he could completely suck and would be off the books next year. Would also give the Lakers a little more depth, since I'm assuming they will still be starved for it next year.

I agree with lowe on the trade thing, so far as it's not as easy to make a good trade when you can't force the other team to make it. I've said this before: If the offer was Bledsoe and Butler for Millsap we would have done it in a second. Our front office is not insane. There is literally no downside for us in that trade. But the Clipps were never interested--they might have been using us a leverage against Boston; or they wanted one of our young guys (Hayward, Favors?) who aren't worth trading for Bledsoe.

I agree with Simmons to the point where I want to hug him for the Marvin Williams thing. WHY ARE WE PLAYING HIM WHEN WE HAVE BETTER ****ING PLAYERS GETTING DNPs (Carroll) OR COMING OFF THE BENCH (Hayward)

I was thinking Splitter or landry for cheap next year while kanter develops. But this sounds even better. Let both Sap and Al walk if they are asking too much. We preserves the cap for '14 free agent signing as well. Hopefully we have a young and exciting team by then to attract legit talent.

Simmons is a ****ing idiot. He told us to keep Al Jefferson and trade Favors. Zach Lowe has 40x the basketball knowledge. Name a single better NBA journalist in the world right now.

Simmons is ****ing right about what he told and Zach is % 100 wrong. I did not see the Al and Favors issue so i can not make any comment about it, i gotta see incoming players etc. For me Stephen Brotherston is superior than Lowe
