As the question of who we draft this summer is not nearly as relevant as which veterans we'll sign to give their minutes to, I was curious to see what names you guys think will end up being likely choices. Through either free agent signing or trade exception acquisition, these are the guys I find likely candidates:

Kurt Thomas
Antawn Jamison
Richard Jefferson
Richard Hamilton
Elton Brand (expect him to be our target if we lose Millsap)
Chris Kaman (expect him to be our target if we lose Jefferson)

If we lose Jefferson I expect to see us try to throw money at Kevin Martin to be our new offensive centerpiece.

Before flaming please consider reality.

Edit title: "in their stead".

Ugh. This is where I lie to myself, again, that THIS time is different...

Me too. Here it goes:

I think KOC/Lindsay didn't trade Paul or Al because they are planning a full-blown tank next year. KOC has to be proud that it has never taken him years and years of losing to rebuild the team. He's has been able to produce some respectable >.500 seasons while acquiring lottery talent.

Lindsay comes from San Antonio, and, being the team history buff that he is, he knows that the Spurs built their franchise on one very strategic tank job. I bet they see Andrew Wiggins and other potential 2014 superstars as a similar opportunity.

They are also aware of how in love the fans are with the Core Four. They know we'll support the team through one terrible season if it means watching the young guys play.

My prediction is they will sign 4-6 D-leaguers, and trot out a 9-man rotation of Hayward, Favors, Kanter, Burks, Marvin, Evans, plus three rookies. Hayward and Favors might suffer mysterious injuries if they start winning too many games.

Lie over.

You need to study your NBA history....

The Spurs tank job was thanks to massive injuries to some of there best players including Robinson who was lost for the year, as well as Elliott, there second best player and scorer. There best player was Dominique Wilkins who was on his very last legs. They were bad not on purpose, but very bad luck that turned into amazingly great luck.

Kaman is almost a bigger black hole than Jefferson and is even worse on defense. I want Samuel Dalembert to be brought it. He's a black hole too but he's a great defender.

I can see Brand being brought in. I also think the Jazz natal run at Andre Miller or Jose Calderon.

I think Brand off the bench would be a solid pickup, but we all know he'd start. Then the talk (and it would only be talk) would be that "the starting gig is there for Favors/Kanter to earn" and we'd see 17 mpg from Kanter and 23 mpg from Favors.

Assuming we carry 5 bigs, I really hope that #5 is our 2nd rounder or something like that. I hope it's not too much to ask to clear a bit of room for Kanter/Favors.

I guess we could do worse than Martin. At least he appears to give a positive impact overall.
