Following potential 2013 draftees

Now that we're all in on the draft, I was thinking which teams might look at drafting a PG before we pick:

Charlotte- Not likely.
Orlando- Very Possible (Marcus Smart?)
Cleveland- No Way
Phoenix- Not Likely
Detroit- Possible, I don't think they see Knight as a PG anymore.
New Orleans- Possible.
Sacramento- Possible.
Minnesota- No Way
Washington- No Way
OKC- No Way
Philadelphia- No Way
Portland- No Way
Dallas- Very Possible

The Only teams I see as possibly taking Burke before us are Detroit, New Orleans, Sac, and Dallas. Burke would really have to climb some draft boards to jump up to 6 or 7 to be taken by Det., NO, or Sac. To me the biggest threat to take him is Dallas. Here's hoping we pick before them!

Dude, that RIPS.

We give;
Top 3 pick
Al is irrelevant

We get;
Ben Gordon - Cheesus... terrible
Biyombo - some upside, but not a need (meh)
We get a likely two 1st rounders (mid) in '14 - could be VERY good.

This all depends, to me, on the contract of Gordon.

I'd want to see what else is out there, but I'd definitely look at this.

-It's Al for Gordon. They get to spend the $11 million they'd be burning on Gordon to get a player that at least looks like he's doing something good and isn't going to be a cancer. I'd give Gordon a shot to play, but I'd be prepared to just cut him. The Jazz are probably going to need to find $11 million to spend anyway as it would make no difference to their bottom-line. Charlotte needs a locker room guy that can produce badly, and they need someone who can score badly. Al actually makes a lot of sense for them and would probably actually make them better. Huge net positive for them. Jazz lose nothing and Charlotte gets everything (besides two top-3 picks, and, again, a guy that can reliably score which is something they have very rarely had).

-Biyombo is servicable as a 4th big AT LEAST. RIGHT NOW. If he develops into a defensive lynchpin, holy ****ing gravy (and I keep saying this, but Ben Wallace didn't become a perennial DPOY immediately either).

-The Jazz get either what would have been essentially their own pick this year if the Blazers pick falls to Charlotte this year, or the Jazz get another 1st rounder next year. That Pistons pick is basically a lock for 2014 anyway. Isn't getting picks that year the goal?

-Who are the Jazz picking top-3? I have my questions on Noel for a team that could be loaded in the frontcourt (who would be duplicitous with Biyombo in terms of skillset), Mclemore will definitely go 1st or 2nd and I don't know why he doesn't do it for me. That he doesn't play a position of need enters the equation although I know that's against the rules. Cody Zeller? Puke. Marcus Smart? He's a gamble on potential. Anthony Bennett? I want someone that isn't famously bad at D. **** 'Bazz. Oladipo? I guess so? Really a reach. The guys I care about are really a reach in the top-3. And if the Blazers pick ends up going to Charlotte this year, the Jazz have about as good a chance at landing Burke anyway.

I just don't like Gordon at all.. so I'd prefer to find another way to spend the money, if possible.
I don't mind Biyombo at all, just making a comment that he doesn't excite me.
I am sooo on board that we don't need the top 3 pick.. I don't love anyone, at all.

Why not just let Al expire rather than a sign and trade that nets us Gordon?

Because it gets you something at the cost of nothing. If the Jazz can find a better $11 million in cap to spend*, then I'm all ears. But to me, Biyombo and sealing a trade that gets you two valuable picks is pretty damn good.

*I'm just about positive that you know that team's need to spend 90% of the cap (starting next year) and the Jazz are way under. A team with a roster payroll of $30 million pays the same as a team with a roster payroll of $50 million.

S/T Al and the top-3 pick

for

Ben Gordon's ****ty ***, BIYOMBO, and their Blazers* and Pistons** picks.

*top 12 protected in the 2013, 2014, and 2015, and unprotected in 2016
**top 14 protected in the 2013 draft, top 8 in 2014, top 1 in 2015, and unprotected in 2016

I like it too. I agree that the Jazz have no need for a top 3 pick this draft.

Top 3 for me?

Noel
McLemore
Smart

But I'd also take a hard look at Porter, Bazz and Bennett.

TBH, I'm just as excited about Burke and Giannis though.

Aldridge wrote this about Burke:

Burke's ability to create space and get his shot off also bodes well for his pro prospects. Some teams believe Burke is the best player in the Draft, period.

Hope those "teams" aren't picking before us...
