True story: I had a dream last night where I ordered a Big Fes jersey and got a #15 Harpring jersey in the mail instead.

It was easily the lowest stakes nightmare I have ever had.

Fes and his agent aren't stupid, Houston's offer probably wasn't that great. If they offered 2 years, $3M ($1.5M each), Fes would feel like he could take the $1.1M QO this year, then make up the loss with at least a $1.9M contract next year when he's unrestricted. If the offer was 2 years, $4M ($2M each), then the decision gets tougher. Can he make up $2.9M in 2011-2012? Time will tell, but as an unrestricted FA, he won't be tied down by a QO and he will have a better chance.

Outside of an injury, Fes has very little risk in just accepting the QO. With Okur out, he's going to get some playing time. All he needs to do is grab a few rebounds and get a few dunks. Do that for 80 games and he'll probably get at least $3M next season. There aren't a lot of 7'0" / 285lb'ers out there. As Numberica said, he's a Fegan client so don't expect him back next year.

Obviously it isn't about the money with this kid.
I think he sees the same kind of thing that D-Will is seeing, and he sees a possible championship run.

Sounds like a seven man team to me. Okur and AK are injury prone, Miles is sub-par, Hayward is unproven, who the hell is Evans?, and we're still drooling over Fes' "upside potential". Deep! Very, very, very deep.

Millsap and maybe Watson are the only depth Utah has at this point. Take out AK and Okur's injuriy prowess and it's a different story. They didn't just grow a year younger, each.

Ok for one thing Okur is NOT injury prone.
In fact, he's played more games consecutively than most of the team in the last four years. Ak, yeah he's injury prone, but so are a lot of good players.

Miles Sub-par? I've seen videos of him draining 25 three pointers in a row in practice.

Does it matter that Hayward and Evans are unproven? Wes Mattews was unproven, and look what size of a contract he landed in Portland.

People that know the game of basketball, can tell what Fesenko's potential can be in the NBA.

For one thing Millsap is a proven starter, and your saying that Kirilenko, Bell, and Price don't bring depth as well?

As far as Price goes, you might want to look at the Lakers/Jazz series in the 09/10 season, where Price completely schooled L.A's whole bench and almost brought the Jazz all the way back from a blowout.

I'm with you on Price. I don't know why he's become this board's whipping boy. He's not Deron Williams, but then why would anyone expect that. Does he have some bad games? Of course. So does Deron, but Deron also doesn't come off the bench for 8 minutes at random intervals. I've always thought Price was a decent backup. I think Watson, from what I've seen of him over the years, is better and will deserve time ahead of Price, but I like Price for what he is.

Leaving 3 mil on the table is more idiotic than anything Fess has done in his life combined, and that is saying a lot. The guy maybe made a million total in his entire career - how can he just leave 3 mil on the table? Even if he is unrestricted next year - he needs to show he can play before commanding anywhere near this amount. And there is always possibility of injury. 3 mil for him is too much money to risk. You just don't turn down this kind of money when your career earnings are 3 times less and your best accomplishment is averaging 3 ppg on 43% FG starting in play-offs, when real starter went down. And let's say he does well in the next year. So, he plays out one more year, gets his extra 3 mil and then signs a big contract. Risk vs reward just does not make sense here. Don't take me wrong, I am glad it worked out well for the Jazz as we get to keep him for just 1 mil, and next year with AK's deal expiring we can offer him more if he earns it, so I am glad how it worked out. I am just fascinated with Fes' stupidity, which he has just taken to the whole new level.
