Yes, but like everybody else has said, KOC would never guarantee something like that. Until I see a quote I don't buy it.
Well, the reporter put in quotation marks, "will be," so that clearly indicates that KOC made such a statement at an earlier time. There is no other way to interpret that. I don't know when he said it; I'm taking the reporter's word for it, and I'm sure he wouldn't publish it, if it weren't true, because KOC would have a **** fit, don't you agree?

A lot can be lost in context there, for sure (he may have said "will be" 30 seconds prior to saying that he can't guarantee it, he may have said it the previous day, he may have said "as of now, we expect AK will be with the team on opening day", etc.). In any case, the word "guarantee" (which you put in quotes on the previous page...) has not been used by any reporter, other than you (tee hee), in quoting KOC's remarks about AK.
Seems like pretty irresponsible reporting on your part. You'll never make it as a reporter.

Correct, but since we are stuck with him, I hope he does well until he leaves.
Finding any sort of definitive statement about any player's future in an O'Connor remark is an exercise in over-active imagination. O'Connor won't guarantee Williams will be here a week from now, if you ask him.
Or, that the reporter misheard/misunderstood O'Connor. Or, that the reporter was following up on a rumor he read. Or, that the report was trying to put words in O'Connor's mouth.

No, I don't agree. I think your remark indicates a disconnect with the reality of the ways reporters often distort things.

You don't go putting quotes on things people didn't say or you can be sued for libel. When the reporter said he backed off, he backed off saying he "will be" with the Jazz. Did he use the word guarantee in that instance? I don't know. I didn't read the earlier interview. But KOC did use it in what is related to the important piece of information: Will AK be with the Jazz this year?
