The situation was pretty unexciting back then too. The team was a bit better than it is now (fighting for a 5th seed instead of 8th), but there are many parallels to the current situation. We had two bigs incapable of playing any defense, making our annual series with the Lakers a little more than a mid-playoffs break for them. We had a vet-loving coach who was VERY slow to adapt to the modern game, and who had maddeningly automated rotations that did not reflect what was going on the floor. And most importantly, it was obvious that we were not going anywhere with that squad (minus D-Will, who was a legit franchise player).

At least now, we can delude ourselves into thinking that the management will get a real coach and get rid of the vets who are holding the team back, and reinforce the youth core. But even if none of that happens, we'll simply remain lost in the same sea of mediocrity as we have for more than a decade.

Dont we want to hire Jeff Van Gundy to replace Corbin?
 
Because of the Jazzfanz obsession with beating the Lakers, the 2006-10 Jazz teams were underappreciated by many even though they matched up well with virtually every other team in the league. Injuries coupled with the inability of the FO to build upon their upward trend in the summer of 2008 negated the progression from fringe-contender to legit contender - but they were an outstanding offensive team that played average-enough defense to beat just about anybody besides LA - and it should be noted the one time Utah played LA fully healthy in the playoffs the series was nearly even.

It's a shame some fans couldn't appreciate the beautiful basketball they played because there's a good chance it will be several years before we see a Jazz team play at that level again.

Then, the 5th seeded Jazz got one of the luckiest brakes in franchise history because the 8th seeded warriors beat the 1st seeded Mavericks. The Jazz pulled out a win for the series before facing the dreaded Spurs, who put a pretty good whoopin' on the Jazz and make it look like we didn't belong in the WCF. Meanwhile, back on the ranch, Jazz fans were crying about how that's as far as we could ever expect a team with cry-baby Kirilenko, ole-defense Boozer and Memo Slowkur to ever go.

...pretty much spot on! But the fact of the matter was we won two rounds of the playoffs, we beat the Rockets on there home court to boot, AND the best series was stomping the "hip hop" Warriors who thought they were the next best thing to slice bread

Your forgetting about the Spurs. We were the bitches of both the Lakers and Spurs at that time. And when it mattered the games were not even really competitve.

Along with the rest of the league, mind you. During the time this team was together, the Spurs and the Lakers won 4 out of 6 championships. And the Lakers played in another Finals. Only in Jazzland do we demand that everyone be traded and/or fired because we're not in the top 7% of the league.
 
This game was the night of my wedding. I remember we had it turned on during the reception and me and all the guys were gathered around watching it while I got death stares from my new wife.

But the I took her to the Grand America that night and rocked her world for 8 minutes...then all was forgiven.
