What's new

Not too long ago

Because of the Jazzfanz obsession with beating the Lakers, the 2006-10 Jazz teams were underappreciated by many even though they matched up well with virtually every other team in the league. Injuries coupled with the inability of the FO to build upon their upward trend in the summer of 2008 negated the progression from fringe-contender to legit contender - but they were an outstanding offensive team that played average-enough defense to beat just about anybody besides LA - and it should be noted the one time Utah played LA fully healthy in the playoffs the series was nearly even.

It's a shame some fans couldn't appreciate the beautiful basketball they played because there's a good chance it will be several years before we see a Jazz team play at that level again.
Your forgetting about the Spurs. We were the bitches of both the Lakers and Spurs at that time. And when it mattered the games were not even really competitve.

Along with the rest of the league, mind you. During the time this team was together, the Spurs and the Lakers won 4 out of 6 championships. And the Lakers played in another Finals. Only in Jazzland do we demand that everyone be traded and/or fired because we're not in the top 7% of the league.

This game was the night of my wedding. I remember we had it turned on during the reception and me and all the guys were gathered around watching it while I got death stares from my new wife.

But the I took her to the Grand America that night and rocked her world for 8 minutes...then all was forgiven.

Now its just....

Good ol Jazz

-I'm not forgetting anything. We all know that series should've been 2-2 after 4 if not for SteveJavie/KenMauer screwjob in the 4th-qtr of Game 4. While the Spurs were the better team and still would've likely won the series - playing them even through 4 games fits with how the Jazz/Spurs season series went from 2006-10 in which the Jazz held an 8-7 advantage.
-There's also no doubt the Jazz played well enough to win Game 5 in LA the following year which would've given them a 3-2 series lead if not for Bavetta/Delaney/Javie working their magic. No - the Jazz weren't better than the Lakers in that or subsequent series but the only time they faced them fully healthy they definitely held their own.

I am extremely disappointed in the current state of the franchise and I understand it fits the frustration narrative to belittle the Deron/AK/Boozer/Memo era as well - but the bottom line is the Jazz had alot of success from 2006-10 and will be lucky to reach a point where they're a top-8 NBA team in 4 out of 5 seasons in the near-future.

Wants wrong with wanting to win? We were not good enough then to win. That's the bottom line for me. We could not keep that team together and hope to get better. They were going to get more expensive and our already lack of depth was going to get worse. We had a great run there for a few years but when push came to shove we were not really all that close to as good as those teams.

I am happy for you that you are willing to settle for mediocrity. You will probably be happy when this team re-signs just enough of the current vets to continue to be that way. As for me it is championship or fail. I've deal with mediocrity for all of my Jazz basketball watching and I'm ****ing tired of it.
.
I never doubted than Larry and the franchise wanted to win and would try and do what was necessary to do that. I no longer feel that way. Now I believe it's just a business to them and they don't have as much interest in winning it all. This is why I am struggling to be positive with this team. Watching mediocre players continue to play over younger better players is infuriating. Knowing that the coach is almost untouchable is equally infuriating. And remaining a fan of this team is starting to seem like it's a waste of time. I've never felt that way until now. But I am starting to wonder if this team even deserves the support.

So many things could've gone differently during those 2 seasons ('06-'08) that could've yielded great results for us. Obviously we got a ton of help from GS in knocking out Dallas, but there were (2) huge incidents that severely diminished our title hopes:

-Robert Horry cheapshot on Nash leading to Amare's suspension. That play doesn't go down the Suns probably win game 5 and have a commanding 3-2 lead and most likely win the series. We won the season series against them 3-1. I think they still would've beaten us in a 7-game series, but we would've had a much better chance against them opposed to the Spurs. Then it was the 50-win Cavs in the finals who I think we would've taken.
-Gasol robbery trade. Not only did the Lakers get addition by subtraction (trading Kwame) they land a great player in Gasol as well. The Lakers were playing very well when the trade went down and would've been a tough match up regardless, but you put us in a 7-game series against those Lakers with Kwame instead of Gasol I like our chances.

'07'-'08 was our most well-constructed team in the past 12 years and was our best chance IMO.
