What's new

Thank goodness for that....!!!

Ain't gonna happen. This is where the players draw their line in the sand.
A hard cap would be terrible for the game. So Portland offers $17M + one dollar for Deron because the Jazz only have $17M left? I realize the NFL has a hard cap, but you have 53 per team. It's a lot easier to move parts around to stay under the cap.

I don't think there's too much wrong with the current set-up. Teams have a pretty good range to work with in between the cap and luxury tax. You can generally hold on to your own players, unless they're dead set on going elsewhere (LBJ) or they get an exorbitant offer from another team (Matthews). Maybe give teams more protection of their 2nd-round picks and undrafted players. Wesley making MLE vs. guys like Tyreke, Jennings, etc. being on a rookie scale for 4 years seems unfair. And perhaps devise a way to make it even more attractive for FA's to re-sign with their original teams.

The game ain't broke - and neither are the owners. They keep overspending on FA's. One thing we know...even if the players make concessions, nobody is going to lower ticket or beer prices.

I sincerely hope and am pretty confident that Deron wouldn't leave over $1.

....ain't much wrong with the game? When you have slop dummies like Boozer and Klinko making between $150,000-$200,000 PER GAME...a lot is WRONG! I agree, the owners are stupid as the day is long.....and they ain't gonna pass on no savings to no fans....but they are the owners.....and paying these clowns that much money just ain't gonna happen on this next CBA! Yeah, the players can draw a line in the sand....and then half of them will be standing in the unemployment line shortly thereafter!

...I know that owner for the Wizards just got fined 100 grand for his hard cap statement...but just think!.....when it becomes a reality, he will save that in less than one game by not paying that much to knot-heads like Boozer and others!

Interesting read on implementing ahard cap.

So the Lakers either have to play 5 on 3 or an exception will have to be made. And Miami would have a hard time filling a roster. NO WAY is Stern doing anything to hurt either franchise. The Miami games will get huge ratings this season. And if it comes down to Miami-LA in the FINALS, viewership around the US and world will be through the roof.

If the owners insist on a hard cap, it will be a year-long lockout. Minimum.
The only thing I could ever see happening is tightening up the exceptions with a hard cap phased in over the course of the next 5 years. That allows everyone currently signed to a 6-year deal to have a new contract by the time a hard cap is in place.
