When the Lakers’ Antawn Jamison and Jodie Meeks are combining for five 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter of a close game, there could be only one conclusion: The Jazz are cursed, right?

In reality, this simply is their own fault.

You can blame Kobe, an NBA conspiracy, the Lakers’ opponents or just plain bad luck for everything that’s transpired in April in damaging the Jazz’s playoff chances. Ultimately, this problem is their own creation.

So the Jazz find themselves needing to win tonight at Minnesota and Wednesday at Memphis, plus have Houston beat the Lakers in Los Angeles, to earn the Western Conference’s final playoff spot. Just to add to the unlikelihood of it all, Houston may be locked into the No. 6 seed by tip-off Wednesday and have little incentive, other than coach Kevin McHale’s personal rivalry with the Lakers.

In any case, the Jazz — and those of us wondering if coach Tyrone Corbin and players such as Al Jefferson and Gordon Hayward would have redeemed themselves with another playoff opportunity — will lament all of their missed opportunities. They lost games they should have won at Milwaukee, Cleveland and Chicago in early March. They also let tired, beaten-down teams like Chicago, Boston and New York come into EnergySolutions Arena and win at the end of long trips.

After the Spurs loss, my friend (who is a hardcore Spurs fan), texted me that he was sorry Popovich ****ed up the Lakers game badly.

True, but if those fans can provide you with specific examples then that should lend some weight to their opinion.

What are some specific examples of Ty losing games for the Jazz. Obviously he has been far less than perfect, but what are some blatant examples of him costing the Jazz an easy win? I remember them being brought up but cannot remember what they were.

Foye on Kobe
Big Al instead of Favors when we needed defensive stops late in game
Playing Hayward 17ish straight minutes and getting him burnt out to finish the game
Rewarding Kanters brilliance while Big Al and Sap were gone with 5 minute games
The 20ish DNPs-Coaches decisions Burks got at the start of the year
Playing Watson over Tinsley

Every team has bad losses, including the Lakers who lost at home to Orlando, Philadelphia, and Washington. If you're going to criticize the Jazz for the bad losses you have give them credit for the good wins. Miami, Oklahoma City, Denver, Memphis, San Antonio and the Lakers (twice). Yeah, they lost some games they could have won but they are 9-2 in their last 11, including 3 straight on the road. At least Kragthorpe is smart enough not to single out Corbin when it's pretty obvious the players share in the blame.

Anytime you lose a close game, fans will point to things that weren't done as the reason a team lost.

Foye on Kobe - The game where the Lakers beat us by 18 and Kobe only had 14? Probably didn't matter either way.

Big Al instead of Favors when we needed defensive stops late in game - Agreed, but how many games did an Al defensive possession cost the Jazz a game? Maybe the Hornets loss with the Vazquez layup?

Playing Hayward 17ish straight minutes and getting him burnt out to finish the game - agreed should have broken that up a bit

Rewarding Kanters brilliance while Big Al and Sap were gone with 5 minute games - Yeah, that was odd for sure

The 20ish DNPs-Coaches decisions Burks got at the start of the year - eh, not convinced Burks was/is a huge difference maker yet. But I would like to have seen him play because he's entertaining.

Playing Watson over Tinsley - blah both have been really bad and occasionally ok. Tinsley a little less bad but not by a whole lot.

pretty sure i remember chris paul getting a game winning layup over al at 1 point

Ahh, yes I do remember that. Thank you. Both were tough shots where Al was in position and made a play on the ball, maybe Favors length and athleticism would have made the difference though.

Corbin didn't know the correct score down the stretch of that same Chicago game.

Al Jefferson is the sole player on this team whose role, minutes, and spot in the rotation refuse to be touched despite that he holds the offense and defense hostage with his completely unidimensional game. In other words, Jefferson's ability to impact the game positively is as situational as anyone on the team and you could make the argument that he should be one of the first things tinkered with when it's not working, especially since the Jazz have three other bigs that can play and bring things that Al abjectly lacks. Refusing to approach the reality of Al (or change him [which I understand is probably impossible]) is all on Corbin.

Don't remember that. Not good if true though.

Going into multiple overtimes without a single lineup change, burning out his players.
not playing favors AT ALL in the 4th quarter or overtime when he was having the best night of his life.
Drawing up game winning plays that have foye taking guys off the dribble, or mo Williams playing hero ball, or foye jacking up contested 3's from 5 feet beyond the line.
Not knowing how many points we are down by on the last possession of a game.
Not going 2 for 1 many times this year when we should have.
Playing the worst starting lineup in the league over and over again for the majority of the year.
Too many dnp's for carroll.
Not holding vets accountable for screw-ups.
