Gordon Hayward 12-13 Season Mix

That dick Prodigy.....again.

That was awesome. Prediction for Hayward next year: he will average 18, 4 and 4. The kid is going to be good if he doesn't have to defer to Jefferson, Mo and Foye anymore.

While watching the spurs game last night I saw ginobili drive and the scoop in a layup. It was haunting (in an amazing way) of how similar it was to hayward. I'll have to see if I can find a video with it.

Hayward's efficiency on isos and pick and rolls still leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately. Dude's already a beast in transition and off the ball, but he hasn't shown enough to this point to be a legitimate primary ball handler. Still love the dude, and hope the Jazz can lock him up longterm, of course, but he's not a guy you can build a halfcourt offense around.

They could hide a lot of that with a good point guard though. I do wish that the Jazz would teach Favors and Hayward how to run the pick and roll together. I think they could be devastating.

As far as Iso's for Hayward, I think he will be ok, but never as good as he is in transition.

GVC, I think it is too soon to judge that. His responsibility has been to give the ball up in the half court thus far. Next year, when he is likely counted on to lead in the half court, I will have more of a sampling about what he can do on the ball.

Anyways, that mix makes my heart hurt. As much as this season sucked, I am sick of watching other teams play. Jazz are the only team that make me scream, throw ****, and jump up and down when they're on --I miss that.

The synergysports stats for his isos and PnR ball handler possessions is quite poor the last two seasons. The underlying reasons are fairly simple as well IMO, as he doesn't have a particularly tight handle (plays a bit upright, short arms), doesn't finish well in traffic (not that physical/strong), and is inconsistent when pulling up for jumpers off the dribble. I'm not that hopeful that there will be significant improvement in the first two areas, but it's possible he improves his pull-up game. He's pretty much an elite off-ball halfcourt scorer at this point, and is very smart about pushing the ball when the opportunity presents itself. He's a valuable piece for sure, but I think it's highly unlikely he ever turns himself into a primary ball handler.

The eye test backs this up as well. He's a great #2 ball handler in half court situations, but we need someone with a tighter handle to be the primary ball handler in the halfcourt. I think Hayward is already very Ginobli-like and could become a better overall player, but primary ball handler seems unlikely.

OK, I thought we were just talking Isos and PnR, not primary ball handling. I don't want him being a point-forward. The Jazz need a true PG. I think Hayward has enough play making ability, and ball handling skills (his T/O dropped significantly towards the end of the season) to be the second ball handler.

Secondary ball handler is cool with me for Hayward. I think if he had a better pick and roll partner, that aspect would improve. As far as isos, we just need a better coach who does not run an iso offense.

Lebron is the only legitimate 6'8" + player in the league good enough to be a primary ball handler, so don't think anyone really expected that.
