Wowww... did not realize this. Considering that the highest paid MLS players are paid equivalent to the lowest salaried NBA players, and I see more RSL t-shirts, jackets, jerseys, than I do jazz merch, do you think MLS teams are more profitable? JW.

Also other things to consider... 17-25 home games vs 41, games on saturday versus weekdays, etc..

(talkin' %-wise, I realize that the tv deals alone for NBA teams make them more profitable)

The militant anti-soccer guys don't want to acknowledge it, but soccer is slowly gaining ground in this country. It won't ever be the same as the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc, and that's fine. But MLS has been improving. The quality of soccer since the league debuted has risen dramatically.

Also, I can understand why some guys don't like it, but I've never understood the hate. I don't like hockey, but some do, and I don't go into a frothing tirade when they bring it up...

I don't get the hate for soccer either. But for some reason people do like to mock things they don't like. For example I hate NASCAR and would never voluntarily watch someone make 1000 left turns in an oval, yet people do. Fine with me, but many mock them for some reason.

Actually thinking about it both NASCAR and soccer seem to be different sides of the same coin. The left mocks NASCAR for being the sport of dumb hicks while the right mocks soccer for being the sport of godless commies.

I took the family to an RSL game recenty, my observations:

It was relaxing, nothing really happened on the field, but even less was happening in the stands.
It was quiet, I could talk to the kids without shouting.
It was clean, bright and parking wasn't scary (sorry Bee's but your parking situation scares the hell out of me as a father)
It was about the game and not all the other stuff.
There was no stupid train or playground that my kids kept asking to go play on.
The game kept moving without needless timeouts and breaks.
I got a deal on tickets and concessions were not jaw dropping--as concessions go.
I didn't know any of the players, but none of them acted like prima-donas (sp?) or make themselfs out to be a King.

I would go again.

Last time I tried to take kids to a Jazz game, they asked to leave in teh second qtr becasue the music & sound effects were too loud. Won't waste money on that again.

There are militant anti-soccer people? I guess I can still be surprised by just how small-minded some are.

I'm guessing it's a pretty cheap ticket relative to NBA and NHL.

I was wondering the same thing, but even with cheaper tickets and cheaper concessions I'm curious how profitable they are. I don't know how high salaries are compared to an NBA team, but I also don't think they get anywhere near the TV revenue that the NFL, NBA, or MLB get.

I'm guessing they make good money, but I also wonder if most of the "money" made will be off of the increase of the team's value over time.

I was hanging out with some friends a while back, and one of them brought a guy he works with who I had never met before. He's one of those militant types. I don't even remember how soccer came up, but he went on rampage about how stupid and boring it was, and specifically that I must be gay for liking it. Calling me gay? That's an affront to every self respecting gay person out there. Not that this has anything to do with anything, but I'm pretty sure his favorite sport was NASCAR.

All this proves is that there is a high Latino population in America and they can afford 5 dollar Soccer tickets.

But I already knew this.

I watched the world cup about 12 years ago (check my math, it might have been 14 years) and liked it. I liked how the game kept moving for the most part. It was a little light on intense action, but it's a sport I could see gaining an appreciation for. I've wanted to go to an RSL game but haven't gotten around to it.

My buddy got season tickets for like 8 bucks a ticket. Either way you slice it the ticket costs are apples and oranges in comparison.

Your buddy? Don't you live in the Bay area?

I once spilled a $12 beer down an old woman's back at an RSL game. Worth it.

If you go tell all the Laker fans hi for me.

Football or soccer is 100x more interesting then baseball or american football. King of the sports for reason.

Baseball sucks. Nobody outside of USA and few countries cares about it. It even got kicked out of Olympics as nobody cared about it.
