General Discussion rule?

I used to go on the Arizona Cardinals forums before I was on these forums and on their general discussion board they have the rule "Discuss everything except politics or religion." When I came here I was very surprised that this rule wasn't on these forums (granted those forums are the teams official website). I was wondering if this rule was ever considered on this website?

I know that I can simply ignore those threads if I want but I think that people on this website would hate each other slightly less (me included) if this was an enforced rule.

I think that's too restrictive. However, I have seen sites have a dedicated thread to politics and another for religion and that works well, it seems.

Besides, I'd hate you either way.

Why would you want to be involved in any way with a place that is restrictive like that? It would be like a non-Mormon living in Utah.

So.. you're tell me that you want to enforce a Turkish style ban on religious discussions in the public forum?

Wow... bro, I think you've got so much to learn about human rights & religious freedom.

A rule by definition restricts. If this in itself was enough reason, rules for anything would never exist. If you look at the forums and what rules are enforced they include no extremely offensive name calling, no porn, no threats, etc these also restrict.

Religion and politics are very personal topics that people get heated over. I think pretty much every thread posted on the matter has become a hostile environment. I just don't know if it is worth it.

Toughen up and be the change.

If there are Muslims who are out there and setting bad examples, then you need to work twice as hard to show them that Muslims are loving, peaceful people.

Are you up to the challenge?

You cause the hostile environment. I know you don't suffer from that thing where you don't realize how dumb you are (because you told us you don't), but, uh, anyway, frequently telling people how stupid they are compared to you doesn't help.

No, it's up to you to not distinguish between people as individuals. It's not up to other people to change your opinions based on hasty generalizations.

Thanks for proving my point Gameface and already starting to insult me when I haven't insulted you. You think I am below you in intelligence because you suffer of this btw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect. I beat you every debate because insults and fallacious reasoning aren't good arguments while I use evidence to back my claims.

Let's go word by word, stop me when the insult happens.

You cause the hostile environment.
just like now, letting me know how dumb I am. Like I said in the neg rep I'm only as smart as I am. You pointing out what you perceive as my lack of intelligence and especially proclaiming specific knowledge of how my intelligence compares to yours creates hostility and it's something you do regularly to me and pretty much anyone else you "debate" with.

I know you don't suffer from that thing where you don't realize how dumb you are (because you told us you don't)
Yeah, a little tongue-in-cheek, but ultimately I said you don't suffer from the "I don't realize how dumb I am" condition you have been accusing everyone else as suffering from recently. It was intended to drive my point home that you are the one creating the hostility.

frequently telling people how stupid they are compared to you doesn't help.
So here's me taking the cleverness out of what I'm saying and just saying it. Telling people they are dumb in the course of a debate causes hostility--see above.

Where's the insult?

You don't realize you made an insult because of how dumb you are.

Reported.

I'm really sick of you. I'm trying to have a discussion here. Let's say I am very dumb, does that mean I don't deserve to be engaged honestly and with a basic level of respect or is it okay to be mean and malicious towards me because of my low IQ?

You need to let this one go, Gameface. Everyone knows how full of **** TBS is. What he thinks should be of no consequence to you.

Don't allow him to troll you like that.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for even starting.

I personally would like this forum a lot less if we couldn't discuss politics and religion, and I'm glad we have no such rule.

We do have this statement in the forum Rules, though, and ask people to follow it:

Hot topics: Keep in mind that certain types of discussions tend to provoke strong reactions. These include topics involving race, religion, politics, homosexuality, abortion, etc. These topics can be discussed as long as they are done so without trolling or belittling others. Please take special care in such discussions to not disparage the opinions of others.
