Utah Jazz FA Mini Camp

Gary Neal talked at Finals Press Conference about Spurs inviting him to its Mini-Camp...

I bet this is what Dennis had in mind for the Jazz... finding those jewels in the rough.

That's what they are looking for a guy like that or Ben Handlogten who made the team out of nowhere the year Stockton and Malone left.

all aboard!!!!
I think "school is now in session" is more appropriate.
I hope we fill our roster with these cheap contracts, our three draft picks this year, plus picking up our options on Kevin Murphy and Jerel McNeal, then just pay bonuses for this year to even it all out, and preserve our cap space for next years draft / FA season.

We're not tanking... no... who us? Certainly not.

Seriously, let these dudes compete their hearts out. If they surprise us while on our team, that's a win. If they lose us a bunch of games and we get a good draft pick, that's a win. We're not tanking, we're just not buying mediocrity anymore.
you do realize the money we pay out needs to be at 85% to what the cap is at right. Also you don't want Carroll back? Also I'm not going to watch a bunch of scrubs.

This FA camp is just to see if we can find another Wes or Carroll. We aren't looking to sign a bunch of guys to fill out the roster.

I believe it was GVC who noted that teams UNDER the floor just pay out the difference in bonuses to their existing players. I want Carroll back, but there's no guarantee he returns. Also, re: the 85%, isn't that based on ending payroll? So, if the Jazz are $25M under at the trade deadline, just think of the teams that are well into that 1.5-2X luxury tax range that will come begging to the Jazz to take on some contracts. Jazz could pick up additional draft picks, or demand a good young player in exchange for taking on a big contract. Jazz will also have Marvin's expiring they can look at trading, although expiring contracts aren't nearly as valuable as straight cap space.

Travis Leslie, Luke Zeller and Lazar Hayward.
Dee Bost, Will Buford, Xavier Gibson, Drew Gordon, JaMychal Green, Rodney Green...

... Jorge Gutierrez, Marquez Haynes, Lazar Hayward, Cedric Jackson, Edwin Jackson, Rick Jackson, D.J. Kennedy, Travis Leslie...

... Rasid Mahalbasic, Toure Murry, Harouna Mutombo, Arinze Onuaku, Josh Owens, Chris Roberts, Henry Sims, Jermaine Taylor, Chris Wright...

...aaaaaand Luke Zeller.

And Corbin salivates on the sideline, "Ooooooh, some of those look old enough to be starters!"

Steve Luhm @sluhm about 1 hour ago A couple of college assistant coaches attending/observing/helping with Jazz mini-camp, including BYU's Mark Pope.

Bill Oram @tribjazz about 20 minutes ago Former Jazz coach Jerry Sloan is at Jazz practice facility for free agent mini-camp.

Jody Genessy @DJJazzyJody 1 hour ago Jazz head scout David Fredman credited the Miller family for allowing the team to bring in these free agents for a mini-camp like this. Fredman wouldn't be surprised if multiple players attending this three-day session are on NBA rosters to open the 2013-14 season.

Jody Genessy @DJJazzyJody Jazz will have another "tryout" before finalizing their Orlando Pro Summer League team next month. The Jazz will also hold an "open gym" session in September.

Now that is interesting. Any of ya'll going to give it a shot?

Why not? Since the Jazz like pg's that are 5 ft 11 and pg's that are 150lb's and Corbin wants to start pg's in their 30's, I'm their dream pg. And I'm white, but hispanic. I'm the Jazz's freaking dream pg.

Hmm,
Think a 48 year old 6'8" 265 lb burnt out ex college player still may have a chance?
I could hang at the end of the bench haha.

"The Jazz also invited three college assistant coaches to help them with their 24-man free-agent camp, including BYU's Mark Pope, Kentucky's Orlando Antigua and Gonzaga's Tommy Lloyd."

PKM do you have anything you can share?

Im loving the sounds of this. A lot.
Tankville, I've officially jumped on.

I'd enjoy a roster on opening day of:

Enes Kanter (Injured)/Samuel Dalembert
Derrick Favors/Jeremy Evans
Gordon Hayward/Deron Washington
Alec Burks/Demarre Carroll/Jermaine Taylor
Dennis Schroeder/Shane Larkin/Pierre Jackson

Guaranteed Highlight, every night.

Rodney Green will be a part of the Summer League team. PG/SG who averaged 18pts and 4 boards in Italy last year. Does anyone know anything more about him?

So far, outside of the draft, we have the Jazz taking serious looks at Gal Mekel, Tomic, and now this Rodney Green guy. Interesting. I wonder if we will hear anything more about those who attended the FA camp.
