No, you can't beat the Heat without a big. In fact, just to have a fighting chance you need a big. And even then, no one has been able to beat them (other than Dallas. Who had 2 bigs. 1 of which is a HOF player).
And OKC has proven it.
If you're going to beat the Heat you need a sledgehammer down low. You aren't going to outLebron Lebron, even with Durant. Pretty sure OKC has already proven this already. Or do they need their asses handed to them again in the Finals? Btw, they were killed even with harden.
OKC needs a low post big. They don't need anymore guards. They have plenty of those already. They need bigs because Perkins is worthless and Ibaka doesn't have a low post game.
Feel free to disagree but the results from the past 3 years back up my view. Sorry. Probably because I allow the results to dictate my views. Not views dictate the results.
So, you are OKC. You made the Finals two years ago, had the #1 record in the West, but you want to blow it up and build around a big...Good luck.
If I'm OKC, I look at what made me successful (Harden, Durant, and Westbrook), what is available in the draft (you do have a similar player to Harden, and no dominant big) and be smart. Take Shabazz. Then you are still the #1 team in the West, you still have the best shot in the West to go the Finals, and once you are in the Finals, force Miami to play ball with you.
