I keep hearing that, and it makes me sad, but I wonder why? I've heard it too much to discount it, but if he has any talent at all, with his cheap contract you would think there would be room for him. I wonder what is holding him back?
It's kind of encouraging in a way because it means we won't really sign that many guys. Hoping for something like:
Foye, ****-tier PG, backup big.
Boom. Easy to 'tank' games just by playing the bench much like Portland last year, no worries of minutes not getting to the young guys.

Yep, except you forgot Carroll. As for Murphy, if they keep him, his contract becomes guaranteed. I think the Jazz would rather go with an extra SF until Marvin returns. And they can sign someone to a non-guaranteed deal, releasing him by the end of the year with no strings attached. They'll want to head into the trade deadline with just 13 players since we'd liking be taking on players without giving anyone back...that's the whole concept of having a ton of cap space available.

I thought that Murphy was other issues....skin rash.....more than his abilities/deficiencies.

It has got to be a youth year. core 4 plus 1 (evans) Demarre and atleast 2 draft picks .
Jazz have to find out what they have, before they can find a FA that fits their needs.

Weird about the skin rash.
As for SF, when it comes to an extra SF, like the third string SF, it's pretty common just to throw in a SG until an injured player recovers, their dimensions are very similar. So we have Hayward, Carrol, and the injured Williams. No problem letting even Murphy (if he has any talent) fill in during foul trouble. I think even Burks has done a little SF.
On a slightly related topic, remember Travis Leslie came into that workshop thing that the Jazz had. If I understand correctly, he is more of a small forward than a SG, so if they pick him up that takes care of it. (which kind of makes Murphy unnecessary, doesn't it.)
