What's new

If we had the number one pick in the 2014 draft, would we draft Wiggins?

Well, I think the Jazz drafted a player back in 2005 because they thought he would stay in Utah over that other guy who didn't even work out for the Jazz. That kind of tipped the scales, IMO. In the case of Wiggins it would come down to how closely they are ranked and what his attitude is after working out for Utah and meeting with the coaching staff. Obviously, if he comes right out and says he doesn't want to play for the city of Utah, then you threaten to trade the pick and see what the #2 team is willing to give you to swap positions.

In that scenario, I wouldn't be surprised if we traded down something like giving up #1 for a #5 and two future 1st rounders. Lindsey wants to land an impact player, but also is collecting assets.

If the Jazz get the #1 pick, they will draft Wiggins. They may look at a few other players out of curiosity, but they'd take Wiggins. He's BPA at a position of need, and he's the clear-cut #1 pick right now. I don't think Wiggins is even trying that hard right now and he's clearly an elite elite talent.

The only guy who could possibly challenge Wiggins to go #1 would be Randle, imo, but Randle would have to be completely unstoppable.

Wiggins is from Canada.... It's not like he's from Brooklynn and he'd never survive in a small community.
Do you think Toronto's some rural outpost?

Also, you've basically got a player for 7 years if you draft him. With the new Sign-and-Trade rules, there's even more incentive for players to stay put as well.

Even if I Wiggins straight up told that Jazz that he would leave after 4 years, I'd still pick him. You just can't pass up on that type of talent. Maybe we could win a championship in those first 4 years...it's worth a shot. Plus, you can always trade him down the road and get something for him (look at what we got from the Deron trade).

Don't try to overthink this, there's nothing to think about.

He does currently live in West Virginia though.

The whole worrying about if he would stay in Utah is dumb as **** to think about. Other than him outright saying he refuses to play in Utah, you pick.

Hell, even if he refuses to play for Utah you pick him and trade him to someone else.

To add to that sentiment, plus Wiggins chose to go play college ball in Lawrence Kansas, why? Because he wants to Win, and if the Jazz FO does everything smart, that they have so far since Dennis Lindsey stepped in, then they will make smart moves to surround Wiggins with good players to make us a winning franchise for a long time to come. Lawrence, KS doesn't scream big market by any stretch of the imagination, it's just about basketball and winning and being 'the man' on that winning team.

LOL. Only in Jazzland is this even a debate. You take the better player and you don't look back. If it does not work out, ala Cleveland then the next time you take the best player again and hope it works out better. End of story. You don't take lesser talent just because the one guy "may" not want to stay. Regardless you get him for quite a few years and are in the driver seat to offer more money. Lebron left Cleveland because they showed no inclination to try and win a title. For him and his mass amounts of dollars he gets from endorsements winning was more important.

So Batman thinks because he is a freak athlete of African descent he will think Utah is lame?

Tell me something I didn't know.

Canada and Huntington, West Virginia > A Prep school in Florida, or LA, too, huh?
