Really? I don't think they are comparable and should be used for contract negotiations.

One is a defensive minded player who struggles offensively, but isn't completely incompetent. A contract comp for Favors is what Larry Sanders gets, IMO. Also looking at contracts for DeAndre Jordan.

The other is a me-first offensive scorer who doesn't try to play defense at all. A contact comp for Cousins would be Al Jefferson (though you are going to pay extra for the youth)

This is a good post too. Okay, fess up, who hacked into Cy's account?

Agreed.

The poker reference in the post before that one was a bit weird though.

Not really. You have a pretty good hand in poker, you bet on it and hope for the best. You go all in. I see the potential of Favors and Hayward to be pretty promising, so I'm betting that they will be good players and extending them.

Wallace: Extend. Let's be honest here: You're the Utah Jazz. You're located in pristine and picturesque Salt Lake City. But name the last marquee, franchise-altering free agent to go there and set up shop? Favors could be an All-Star, now that he stands to be in a featured role. Locking him up now is a bit of risk, but it's much less of a gamble than pushing him one step closer to free agency.

unless ya'll can think of a more civilized way to over react.

I see your argument but don't view Sanders' to be in Favor's league. While they are both defensive minded players, Favor's does everything better than Sanders' except shot blocking and is 2 years younger. Sanders will probably never exceed 240, that's a problem for a center playing heavy minutes in the NBA. Athletic gap is significant as well. If we can't find a comparison for Favors, it means we probably have a very special player.

The new CBA only allows a team to have one give year deal!!

I don't see them using the 5 year unless one of them becomes an all star. It's basically saying to Hayward "Derrick is more valuable than you" and vice versa. They also get to secretly save it for Kanter if need be.

You're betting the farm on a pair of 8's.

Guys, just trust me. This is how I made UGLI lose 200$.

LOL... ok so what do you think we have in Favors then?

I think he's a pair of Jacks. And you and I both know, we don't go "All In" off of a pair of Jacks when there's an Ace on the table, and the guy next to you have matched all your raises so far in that same hand. Not even if the River is still to come.

Do NOT extend Favors. 100% wait and see. There aren't going to be teams lining up to throw money at Favors this offseason, because he is a restricted FA. Unless he is a max player...but then pay him the max.

If he bombs, no one will want him, let alone overpay for him.

If he turns into a solid player, with the new salary cap, no one will overpay for a solid player.

If he blows up, pay the pimp. He deserves.

Like with AK, you gain nothing by extending him now.

I think Hayward is different. I think his cost only goes up. You know what he is, so pay the dude. Besides, Hayward will only be more expensive next summer.

Definitely try to extend if the numbers can work out. Not sure how the new CBA works, but as of right now I'd be comfortable with 5/50. I'd actually be a bit nervous to extend him at more than that right now as I'd want to see what he can do full time before paying him max or near max.

That said if he is willing to accept an extension right now for less than the max I say we take it. We'll keep the guy no matter what he gets offered next season, but we may as well get him before a potential max deal.

Taking the poker reference way to literal and ruining it.

3 years on the bench. Benched after scoring 22 points in 3 quarters. And now don't extend him? Yea that makes any player want to stay. And if I'm his agent I'm reminding management of this. Had he started all year I'm sure they could have gotten him cheap if he had the same year. Now I fear we have to max or we may lose him by sheer disrespect.

The whole point in extending him is offering him less than what he would get in the FA market.

I'd be worrying about extending a guy like Cousins for those reasons, kind of like AK, he isn't a hard worker and giving him a ton of money isn't going to motivate him.

Favors on the other hand seems like a hard worker who is going to continue to improve every year.

I'll give you the first part of the sentence and will just say I'm not convinced of the last part.
