This core 4 stuff could make for a good laugh in two years when Jabari Parker is our best player, and Burke is the second best.

I do see a possible problem. There are tons of players making 10 milish per year that don't really deserve it, simply because of either hype or desperation by their teams. If all five of our 'core' players get +10 mil offers, it's gonna be really hard to sign the rest of the team to the 5 mil deals to fill in the rest. That's where a single superstar who is better than his 17 mil max contract is a great thing, instead of a bunch of players paid on potential who never quite live up to it. I'm hoping that they can get Gordon and Derek signed to reasonable extensions, I really don't want them hitting the open market.

This year we have high hopes for the youngsters starting at every position. We don't know how they will pan out or how long they will need to develop, but we have a potential star at every position! I've been watching the Jazz since they moved here from New Orleans, and this is the first time that has ever happened. I expect all of them to give a strong performance, with one or two of them not quite being starter material. But I expect Lindsey to shore up the weak spots through free agency and the draft.

With Kanter, Favors, and Gobert, I think we have a solid 4/5 that can win a championship; we've never been able to say that even when Karl was playing. What remains to be seen is where the upgrades are needed at the 1,2, and 3.

And this is why I was so pissed at Corbin last year. We should already know how good Favors and Kanter are and have a better feel for Burks. Instead we wasted a year playing starters that are no longer with the team.

Damn straight..... although with the way everything is looking to come together next off season, maybe it ended up working out for the best.

The board has seriously become the biggest buzz-kill when it comes to the young guys. Last year we were excited as hell about them, now it's their destined to be ok and we aren't going to win big. **** that. Championships are coming.

Lindsey said in interviews it was a FO wide decision to give the veterans their due respect. I don't think it was just Corbin pushing for vet minutes, I think it was something the organization did as a whole.

Well lets hope so. Maybe they are pulling all the strings.
Maybe Corbin will surprise us this year.

So many questions.

The thing is, I don't know if this "core" is talented enough to win a championship. That's what we're going to try to figure out this year, isn't it? I don't figure we have the perfect team, but after we see what we do have we can adjust and trade and draft to fill the holes. I'm hoping we're at least competitive in 3 years.

This core is easily as talented as the Pistons team that beat Malone's Lakers. The big question is can this core put it together the way Detroit did during those years for them?

I think the "board" has learned to temper their enthusiasm after years of putting players and teams on pedestals that just couldn't get there. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

One last consideration, when our young core saw that the vets played ahead of them, now hopefully they are confident that -being the vets now- they will get the same consideration rather then new draft picks playing over them. That might be enough for them to re-sign with us.

Edit:

I think the 'board' is just bored.....

(season can't come soon enough, i am really not into baseball.... at all.....)

We cant be champ with Burke, Burks, Hayward, Favors, Kanter. Move hayward to 2, trade burks for Lebron, then yeah we can win it today

Of course they can. They just need few more years under their belt and a better cast.

I don't think they can win a title..... I mean with only 4 guys its hard to beat the opponent going 4 against 5 all the time with no one even on the bench to sub in when they get tired

Seriously though, I believe they still need an alpha dog wing scorer (unless burks can become that) added to the core..... Which is why the tank is so crucial.

We can either draft that player (wiggins) or if we draft Harrison or randle we can then go after the player we need in free agency (unlikely for a star to choose Utah, but possible) or trade some of our core + picks or whatever to get our star.

No matter how I look at it, we should be getting our alpha dog star player next year whether through draft, free agency, or trade.

Exactly.
Hayward is capable of scoring 18/per, but he's not going to be a #1 option. He's better at being a facilitator, hopefully developing the ability to come off curls like Harpring, or drift out to the 3-pt line where he's deadly. Still need that player who can score 30 points when you need him to, or the last 8 points of a game when the defense tightens up. Jazz will have room for a free agent even after the draft. Lindsey has the option of taking on expirings again for assets or bringing in an $8-$10M player on a 3 yr deal. That cap space isn't going to be needed until Burke and Gobert come off their rookie deals. Personally, I like the idea of trying to get another pick in 2015. I think it likely the Jazz miss the playoffs next year as well. It's going to take a couple of seasons before they're winning 45-50 games, which is what it's going to take for even the 8th seed.
