Which cologne/fragrance do you guys (and girls) use?

L'Eau Par Kenzo is my favorite right now. It's a citrus fragrance that's very subtle. But it can be intense if you want it to be. It's very fitting in hot summer nights and in everyday settings. It always reminds me of walking through Japanese gardens. You have that wonderful smell of the flowers in your nose, but it's not intense. But when you take a deeeeeeep breath it's really overwhelming.

Related to this: I just wondered how much the prices for colognes/perfumes are in the US? I only know of this ridiculous place in France named Grasse, where all the European perfumes are from...

Obviously there is an incredibly wide range of prices in the U.S.
Or did you mean the cost here vs. Eur for the same bottle?

Yeah that's what I meant.. The price difference ;) I mean if they ship it from France, it obviously causes costs. Same like Porsches costing way more in America compared to local price in Germany.
But maybe there's an US version of Grasse for the continental market!

My young padawans, come, sit, and learn at my feet.

Some gents go way overboard with their cologne collections. If you're smart, you'll get 5-8 quality scents and you'll be set for a while. There are some decent value scents you can get, but I strongly believe the higher-end designer fragrances and the niche fragrances are worth it. An affordable way to go about this is to buy decants/samples. The reason you want a handful of scents is you want to be able to choose something depending on the weather, where you're going, or simply what mood you're in. Here's my preferences:

Work (business casual): Green Irish Tweed (Creed - Coolwater, which I don't like, is a poor man's attempt at ripping this off), Bleu de Chanel (Chanel - TBH I think it smells like laundry detergent, but I get compliments), Philosykos (Diptyque - figs)

Tie: Green Irish Tweed (Creed), Aventus (Creed - smoky pineapples, easily the best scent on the market right now)

Cold Weather: Aventus (Creed) Le Male (Jean Paul Gautier - powdery vanilla), Tam Dao (Diptyque - very natural sandalwood), Pure Havane (Thierry Mugler - great date scent, has that patended tar note that TM is famous for, but it's very subtle, the big notes in this are honey and tobacco)

Hot Weather: Cologne (Thierry Mugler - like Irish Spring Soap in a bottle, this is great for after I work out)

Spring/Fall/Rain: Terre D'Hermes (Hermes - woodsy orange peels).

The wife's faves are Aventus, Le Male, and Pure Havane.

If anyone wants more info I'd be happy to oblige. As you can tell, this is kind of a hobby of mine.

So....you're 18?

Haha, no way an 18 yr old is dropping the amount of cash it takes to get a bottle of Aventus, so I have to think you're referring to Le Male. It's not my fave, but like I mentioned, it's one of the wife's faves, so it stays in the collection. It was way overplayed (much like AdG), but it's a decent scent.

Yes.. and it goes by many different names. Deserves it's own thread.

I am so thoroughly and entirely unsophisticated that cologne would probably burn through my skin and cause my nervous system to seize.

Admittedly I had never heard of most you named ;) But I'm more into basketball than fragrances. Just whenever I decide I want a new one I go a couple times in various shops to test 2 or 3. First one that convinces me I decide to buy.
But I haven't smelled Gaultier on a person older then let's say 23. I had used it myself, but I think its way too annoying. No matter if you like it, you have to bear its presence if you're within 20 yards of the person wearing it. I also made the experience that young girls like it as it's very noticable. It smells sexy and that's attractive I guess.
Gaining a couple years I think it's the annoying kind of attractive. Like Hooters girls are attractive but in an undesirable way.

**** yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Margo, have you tried any of the Tom Ford Private Collection fragrance? If so, what are your thoughts?

I'm gonna check out Creed Aventus though.
