What's new

The REAL burks v. Rush thread.

Oh I see the potential. But I see potential both ways. He could be a really good player who gets it and leads a team and becomes a center point of an offense. I also see a guy who could become a huge chucker that doesn't pass and is a poor defender. Right now for me Burks is almost as unproven as Burke. I think right now Rush is the better player (provided he comes back healthy) and should probably start over Burks. I think Burks has more potential and may very well prove to be a superior player, Maybe even this season.
.
But none of that is enough for all the love he gets on here right now.
.
Oh and I really do want to see that starting lineup. Mostly for the same reason you do. I just won't be upset if it's Rush instead of Burks because it's the other 3 I think are the better players right now.

Very fair assessment and as much I pimp burks, I have no clue how good he will be either.
I see a lot of the tools needed to be a big time scoring wing but I also don't believe that the jazz know how to use a player like him properly

Idk why it is important for guys to start, but it is important to a lot of them that they do..... especially if they are better than the player they are backing up.

I mean pierce, joe jonhnson, lopez, all do better with the ball in thier hands so d will should come off the bench and they should start bogans at point so he can spot up for threes and space the floor.

Everyone is saying that burks would be the fifth option with the starters but we don't know that.... maybe burks will end up being the first option go to guy with the starters.

Here is my reasoning and why I say that I think Alec would be a 5th option. Hayward and Favors have been told it is there team, they well get plays run for them on offense. Trey is going to have the ball in his hands no matter what because he is the PG. (same as Deron to your other point). Kanter might be our best offensive player of the 4 and is going to see the ball in the post. And that leaves Alec starving on the outside.

Starting doesn't matter. its how many minutes you get and who closes the game.

Ok... I can dig it.
But if burks ends up getting less than 25 min per..... then I'm gonna go balistic! Specially if rush and jeffy 2.0 get more minutes than him

gregbroncs is right. We know virtually nothing about Burks. He is indeed like a rookie - after two years in the league. Thanks, Ty!

I keep pimping Burks play in February because it's really all we have in terms of him getting consistent, meaningful and big minutes. The counter is that it's such a small sample size, so we sort of have to take it with a grain of salt. Unfortunately, because of the coaching, we have nothing more to go on. All so the Jazz could get swept in the first round one year and miss the playoffs the next.

Thank heavens Lindsay is here now - two years late, but we'll take what we can get.

Also, regardless of what we think or what makes logical sense, starting matters to players. EVERY guy in the league wants to start. It gives them confidence and the other thing it does is it guarantees them minutes. If you start, you are going to get at the very least 6-10 minutes to start the game and another 6-10 to start the 3rd quarter. Without seeing the floor at any other point of the game, that's 12-20 minutes guaranteed every night. Chances are, especially if you play well, you're going to get a few more minutes in the 2nd quarter and some in the 4th quarter. The other thing to keep in mind when we say closing games is what matters, is that if you start, that doesn't mean you are exempt from closing the game. If you start and play well, chances are you are also closing the game. Sure, if you have guys the choice, most would probably close the game, but again, you aren't having to choose one or the other, rather you want to do both.

Solid
Repped.

No, you have a lot of reason to be high on Burks.

Here is his Rookie shot chart:

And then from last year:

This shows me he has definitely worked on his long range shot which was a knock on him coming out of college. Not only wasn't he very accurate from downtown, he didn't take a lot of shots there and tried to always get to the hoop like Brewer did. We know that unless you can keep the defender honest and he respects your outside shot, you cannot be a playoff rotation 2 guard. He made tremendous strides in this area in the minutes he was given. There are countless athletic freaks drafted where Burks was that need to add a shot to complement their athleticism. Few actually do this and wash out. Burks is doing it. If he can get a 10 ft pull up and improve his FT%, he is going to be something special.

Oh yeah that will piss me off too.

I agree on this. I won't be upset if Rush plays more than him. But will be upset if he's not getting 25 per. If Jefferson is getting virtually any of his minutes besides scrub time I'll not be happy.
