Burke will be fine, but he's all cliches and t-shirts at this point. He's more worried about creating his brand then actually focusing on getting better.
lol
Seriously, my type of player are guys with heart and intelligence. There's a reason why Stockton was my favorite. I liked Malone for his heart and never-say-die attitude. Even Ostertag had heart but just was lazy half the time.
What about Burke? Well, Burke hasn't shown what he's all about yet. I can tell he has talent. I can also tell he has an ability to focus when he wants to. I'm just worried he'll suffer from CJ-itis and keeps shooting now matter what. That's not good. Instead, how about try a different approach? Start passing more and defending? Maybe attack the rim and drawing fouls instead of those hero shots?
He says he's been watching tape on Tony Parker and Chris Paul. How about taking a step back and learn the fundamentals first? You can't always take off-balance leaning shots and expect them to go in. He tends to overreact to his defender and make this dramatic shot like they're this ultra-awesome defender. Truth is, young NBA hopefuls are usually fast and have quicker reactions than in the regular NBA. He won't face that kind of intensity on a nightly basis. He needs to relax and just try new things to expand his game and polish the old stuff that got him here. Don't overthink it.
You ask am I more excited for Clark than Burke? Yes. Burke has a lot of work to do. I've seen too many of those kind of players that have talent but are a big question mark. Clark, to me, is more proven and has the skills that I can relate to. After all, I'm Batman.
Seriously, Clark's game reminds me of my own in my weekend warrior days. I wasn't half-bad. I just had bad knees and feet.
We need more intelligent, quality shooters and players on this roster, that know how to use their bodies already and have a humble attitude about the team. I'm not saying Burke doesn't have that. I'm just saying that I'm hearing more about his off-the-court promo stuff when he should be promoting his workouts and stuff that actually matters to the team's success. Being an example for everyone else is his job as point guard, right? Plus, he's acting like he's already the star of the team. That would bug me a little. Then again, it is a business and he is marketing his product. It's hard to blame him for making the most of it. He is working hard. I'll give him that.
Also, his work ethic will most likely help him prevail in the end. Guys who are willing to work hard usually always get better every year. "Myagi have a hope for you."
As for Clark? He's shown me that I can safely say, "Let it fly!"
Sweet! Can't wait!
