Is it too early for a fire Corbin thread

I know we won and all, but this season is not about winning its about developing the young players. Starting Jefferson and giving Jefferson equal time with Burks is not the approach I was hoping for.

Stats: Jefferson 4 pts in 21:55 min; 2-5 from floor
Burks 14 points in 21:30 mins; 6-10 from floor

I really want the core 5 to play 30-35 mins. per night. I don't care if Jefferson can still play. I don't want him taking away mins. from Burks.

Same goes for Beans. Play Gobert instead.

True, we'll have to see once the games actually count. Right now being pre-season our main guys won't get as many minutes.

It will get worse when the regular season starts, but don't worry there's hope.

I'd rather have Alec coming off the bench. He isn't a good player off the ball. Let him come off the bench where he can dominate the ball. He can become our Manu.

Gobert is not ready. Beans will, and deserves, to play over him.

But bro, Burks is best with the ball in his hands. If you start him, you take the ball out of his hands and we need a guy who can lead the second unit in scoring. I actually think this is a smart move. Lets be honest here: Burks is not that effective off the ball. Think it prudent to opt for Burks in an off the bench scoring, spark plug type roll.

I would prefer Burks start, but if he is happy in the sixth man role that is fine. However, he must have more mins. than Jefferson. Playing Jefferson more than Burks should get Corbin fired. I'm hoping its just preseason mins and not something where Jefferson and Burks split equal time throughout the year.

Of Course Gobert is not ready. That is the point of this season. Play the young guys. Beans is not in the jazz's future. Let him ride pine and give the young guys experience.

I agree that Burks is better with the ball in his hands, but why is Jefferson splitting his time. Hopefully the answer is that its just preseason, but given Corbin's history of playing veterans over youngsters I am a little concerned.

Throwing Gobert to the wolves isn't a recipe for success. He needs to play in small stints right now.

The situation is fine right now. The question is what happens when Rush comes back. If Rush is made starter and Jefferson bumps Burks down to 3rd string SG for 10-15 minutes a game then Oldtimer has a good argument. We'll cross that bridge later.

I too like Alec coming off the bench. Dude's a ball hog. Several times he went "Big Al" and totally ignored his teammates. Burks can do that off the bench since he is being counted on to score. Jefferson for now in the starting lineup. Then, it might be Marvin or Rush when they get healthy. Biedrins played surprisingly well (considering I expected ZERO from him). I may need to up my win expectations to 30-35.

I actually liked the starting lineup...a lot.
It not only moves Alec to the role of stud with the 2nd unit (a la Manu Ginobili) but it also moves Gordon to the SG position...a position I think he is better suited for and thrives more naturally in.

Ditto. And Burks has to learn to manage the mental part of the game before he starts. Good move by Corbin.

That "ball hog" was second on the team in assists with 4, and that is with a lineup of gl3, mcguire, evans, and biedrins/gobert...... so ya.

Plus I think he feels (and might even be coached) that he needs to be a ball hog in that lineup.

I think as a starter he would pick his spots more and be the go to guy at the end of shot clocks to make a play. (Something the starting unit needs right now btw)

Best poster on the site.

He is a ball hog though. Might as well own up to it and play to his strengths instead of pretending he's something he's not.

Minute 0:27 is the definition of ball hog.

I dont see him ball hoggin with the starters though.
Interesting how he shares the ball more when playing with better players and ball higs with crappier teammates

That's because he'd get yanked. They run some catch and shoot and slash plays for him, and he plays his role well with starters (that's not exactly "sharing" as you put it). In the 2nd unite he's wildfire, doing whatever the hell he can to get to the rack, but the offense dies the second he touches the ball. I want more of that and I suspect you'd be more excited for him in that role as well.

Earl Watson, Josh Howard, Raja Bell, Randy Foye, Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins

Corbin's gonna have one hell of a YMCA team to coach after he gets ****-canned.
