An Open Apology to Ty Corbin

I'm not sure I agree. Defensively yes. I think Kanter will be more imprtant to this team offensively. I think they will even out as far as how much this team needs them. Together they will hold down the pain in Utah for the next several years.

Not saying we should get rid of Kanter, just that Favors is more deserving of more minutes, and does more to help the jazz win. Favors offense is improving, and Kanters defense will never be anything close to Favors who could be a top 5 defender when he reaches his prime.

I will complain about corbin's stupid substitution patterns until two things happen. He stops pulling kanter out 6 minutes into every game (regardless the score or how he is playing) or until kanter plays 35 plus minutes a night.

I think he should wait until Kanter is more fully recovered from his injuries. What's your hurry?

The notion on this board that it's acceptable to give players time to develop, but not coaches has always befuddled me.

You draft for players, you trade for players, you bid for free agents...

...you HIRE coaches. Ownership get's to review resumes, do interviews, and choose your coach. Why waste half of player's career waiting for the head coach to complete his on-the-job training.

Except for the fact that Favors is more our future then is Kanter. I like the fact that Ty pulls him at the 6 minute mark. It allows Ty to play Kanter some with our Bench and play Favors some at pf giving him a huge advantage whith the other teams pf. This strengthens our god awful bench.

It isn't Kanter vs Favors, it's Kanter vs Evans, Biedrins, Gobert or whoever else Ty can play instead of Kanter. Ty doesn't like Kanter and it shows in how Ty rides him for mistakes and pulls him from games regardless of how well Kanter is playing. Sloan use to sub out Stockton at the 6 minute mark but only because John was 38 years old (and Stockton hated it). Giving any player his court time in 6 minute slots is a sure sign that he's just a placeholder to his coach.

Cry me a river!! Good hell! He doesn't hate Kanter at all or treating Favors any better!! Kanter is a year behind Favors and going through the same timeline as favors and so on I like the fact that Ty is trying to give the second unit some balance and a second scorer. Favors is ahead of Kanter by a year and is a starter a year ahead of Favors. By playing Kanter some with the second unit he's lightening the load on Burks shoulders so he's not overwhelmed as the only scorer on that unit.

1. Kanter is clearly still recovering from his injury. He still played 29 minutes.

2. Burks played 8 minutes in the 4th quarter, including the last 3. He played 32 minutes for the game, and had the ball in his hands for a large chunk of that time.

3. (for Fish) The players have been playing basketball longer than Coach Ty has been a head coach.

THIS^^^^^^
Until Kanter is ready to play 35 minutes at maximum effort, he should not get 35 minutes. He is only learning when he is physically able to do what he wants and needs to do. Giving a player extra minutes to coast isn't really helping, especially when a few of those minutes can be given to Gobert to help HIM develop. Bringing Kanter along to full recovery and getting Gobert some meaningful game time is a win/win, no?

Good theory. But based on 3 years of puzzling over Ty's substitution patterns, I am not buying it.

That latter view should be the same for coaches: look around and find one who is developed, a vet who has shown what he can do as a HC. The Jazz went the easy way, the comfortable way, with a guy already on the team even though he had never been a HC. And it showed. Maybe he is there now, we will see this year. But we are still guessing if he can do it.

.

Worth mentioning that Burks was 3rd in minutes (Favors, JLIII), 3rd in touches (Favors, JLIII), 2nd in time of possession (JLIII) and 3rd in time of possession per possession (JLIII, Tinsley...the two guys bringing the ball up court). Corbin puts the ball in Burks' hands throughout the game, gives him freedom to attack/create, and plays him 32 minutes, and people are whining about how poorly Corbin handled Burks in this game????

Those last two quotes are great examples of glass-half-empty buffoonery.

1. How is it easier/safer to hire a first time head coach? Hiring an established name comes with virtually no risk of the current fan backlash.

2. Relationships - between coach and player, coach and management/FO - matter. Ty knows the organization and the organization knows him. There'd be time "waste" building these relationships with a new coach.

3. I don't see a single player whose career is being wasted. This team hasn't underperformed expectations under Ty, and the young players seem to be disciplined and hard working both during the season and in the offseason.

Agree to disagree

I'm sorry, but I missed the link where Kanter is still suffering from his injury and your reference to his coasting isn't backed-up by his 3rd quarter performance: He had 6 pts and 8 reb during the 3rd quarter, so why did he miss the first 9 minutes of the 4th?

Guys, I'm worried that Ty did not waste a timeout or foul to get Burks in the game after a short 3 min rest. Why was he waiting for the official 2:59 mark to substitute Burks back in?

Could have just left him in
Burks can handle it

He could have yes. But he did not hurt anything by giving Burks a small breather to ensure he had gas for the closing minutes. Even young players can get gassed. Happens all the time.
