Gordon Hayward is third in assist OPPORTUNITIES by a non-PG this season

There is a new player tracking stat on NBA.com that tracks potential assists, which is: Passes by a player to a teammate in which the teammate attempts a shot, and if made, would be an assist.

We can all see Hayward is doing a pretty good job setting up teammates, but it is nice to get an idea compared to the rest of the league. He is at 11.1 potential assists per game for the season, 3rd for a non-PG only behind LeBron (12.6) and actually Monta Ellis (11.3).

He isn't shooting great in catch-and-shoot situations. Shooting only 32.4%, and 33.3% from 3.

Pull-up shots he shoots better from mid-range (and takes more of them). 41.4% but only 22.2% pulling up from 3.

Further proof that Hayward is developing into a player we want. The one that will play team ball and not be a ball hog and damage chemistry down the road. One that can also average 20, 6 and 5 (pretty much what he is doing now)

This is exactly what I think Dennis Lindsey meant when he said that Utah will do things right and not skip steps.

I'm just glad to know he is playing well, and going nowhere in RFA. This season is sculptung him into the stud that he used to occasionally show he was capable of. Glad he believes in himself, and that he has taken on the challenge of earning his paycheck. No bad blood, no worries.

The combination of him hating to lose, us being on a 15 game losing streak (w/preseason), and him playing for a contract, is doing wonders for his aggressiveness and recognizing when he's being passive. The way he dominated the first half last game, and the acknowledgement of needing to find a way to do the same in the 2nd is major personal growth.

A tandum of he and Jabari would be insane.

Been saying this forever, and people just look at what he is now. Now I'm worried we will have to pay 13million just to keep him, and I'm not sure we should pay that much with the prospect of possibly drafting Wiggins or Parker, and Both will be better nba'ers.

I believe in our FO. I strongly believe that Hayward was not agreeing to a contract that offered a "early signing discount".

I still think there is truth to reports that he was asking for a richer deal than Favs got. Make him earn it.

I have no problem with not signing him.

Oh and we get to draft our stud first so his extension won't affect that. Draft is prior to FA.

I don't think he asked for a max. I think it was 12-13. Which to me is not enough of an early discount. Based on his position, numbers, production, and the current player he is vs upside left, i don't think he's worth that. There were lots of comps to him that were at 10-11.

People are saying if he puts up 20, 5, 5 on good efficiency then he will get 12-13 (even if those numbers are on a bad team). What's the point in signing him early then?

Compare that to Favors. I'm sure the jazz expect 15 and 10 with good defense. Strong belief is he gets 14 a year for that. So to remove risk from both sides he goes less and we are set.

I think you can say I have been sort of "anti-Hayward." Here is where I stand: I have no problem paying Hayward IF HE DESERVES IT. I don't want to pay him on potential. If he is a max player this year, pay him the max. Good for him. I want him to prove it first.

He is averaging 19.5 ppg on 45% FG, 6 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.3 spg in 36mpg.

He has work to do obviously (3pt %, TOs, ft%) but that is a pretty good start.

Not addressed to me I know but I say no. I think he will by years end as he continues to improve. I'd like to see the TOs come down a little, the FG and 3pt % rise and I'd say yes. Maybe 1 -2 apg more, 2 TOspg or less, 39%+ 3 pt % and 84% FT% on top of what he is already doing and I consider it.

That would put him at 45+% FG, 39+% 3pt, 84% FT, 22-24 ppg (more or less), 6 rpg, 6 apg, 1 spg and 2 TOs pg. That is damn nice.

lol, that would not only be damn nice, but probably put him in MVP talks. Those numbers are seriously outstanding.
