I think we should challenged Gonzaga this year for the WCC title and make a tournament run. The game against Stanford tonight will be a good test. Any other Coug fans on here or is it mostly dirty Ute fans?

They're going to be fun to watch. And they don't have anybody that annoys the crap out of me anymore(Cusick and Zysltra). Though, maybe Nate Austin since he's 6'11" and plays like a woman in the post sometimes.

They can get to the rim at will, lots of complimentary pieces, Collinsworth being back makes a big difference on perimeter defense. A young big with loads of upside that should get better every game. Lots of positives. I hope Stanford zones hardcore tonight though so we can see how they handle that. I'm not convinced BYU can 3 ball themselves out of jams, but with their ability to get into the lane, and having multiple guys on the court that are pretty good passers when they want to be, they might be able to pick it apart still.

And Matt Carlino has a been an absolute terror in the first few looks this year. If he's going to go for 20/night, book BYU as a 3 or 4 seed right now. Otherwise I think BYU will probably be in the 8-11 range.

Hopefully Carlino is a little more consistent this year and smarter with his decision making. I think Mika is going to be awesome. Is he going on his mission next year?

Sweet news on the recruiting front:

Payton Dastrup had a change of heart.

Last week the four-star big man out of Mesa (Ariz.) Mountain View committed to Thad Matta and Ohio State. Shortly after his pledge, Dastrup changed his mind. He now plans to play his college basketball for the school he grew up following -- BYU.

BYU has had their guard line shored up for years for awhile through recruiting, now the big man picture is coming together.

And last night was exactly why I said that about their 3 point bombs. 1 for 21 from 3. I knew they had that in them. Granted, White Rip hasn't played the last 2 games, it was the second game of a back-to-back, and they still won by 20+, but you do that against Iowa State/Texas/Whichita St/Utah State, their next 4 games, and you have tough game on your hands. Their ability to get into the lane does make up for a lot though.

Huge game coming up against Iowa State. Is Haws going to play? We don't have a chance if he's out.

I don't know, Winder has been pretty solid. He scores on a lot of good cuts. Looks quick this year. Plays good defense. Solid passer. His biggest knock is that he shoots like an All-American one game from 3 point range, and then doesn't hit anything for like 3 or 4 games from that range. If the on version of him shows up, they might still have a chance sans Haws at home. I'd rather have Haws' consistency, superior height, ability to score from everywhere, court awareness, underrated rebounding, etc. of course, but the cupboard isn't completely bare.

I was wondering if there was a place to discuss the upcoming game on this site...

Go Cyclones!!! Nice blowout victory last year, expecting it be much closer this year. No way the Cougars are scoring 100+ in this one, however
