R.I.P. 2014 Tank

Honestly, this is more likely than snagging a top 3 lottery pick this year. And you all know it.

Only caveat I'd make, is that next year's record would be in the 40s. At best, we become the Atlanta Hawks of the Western Conference.
you take that back

The worst team in the league historically usually doesn't grab the #1 Pick. In an ideal world, we would finish with the 3rd-5th worst record, and get some lottery luck. That would show that our young guys can play a little, and still land Jabari, Wiggins, Randle, Exum, Smart, or Embiid.

I don't want a bunch of hungry d-leaguers. Keep Biedrins he's not hurting the tank.

The main reason to trade away Biedrins is to free up the cap space to take on a bad 2 year contract at the deadline for a late first round pick. Gotta give something to get something. While I agree that hungry D-leaguers would provide more value than Beans has so far, I'd take that and a pick if they can get it.

Right, there are 14 teams in the lotto and one of the 13 usually out draws the worst team. There is no other position that has a better chance at the #1 pick than the team with the worst record. It's always better to have the best shot.

Especially since that best shot guarantees that the worst they pick is #4 which could be any of the top prospects this year.

The East is so bad that bottom feeders are guaranteed to pick up easy wins. Every West win for the jazz will require perfect alignment. Tank on!
Not quite true.

The East is so bad they only have 2 teams over .500 (and one at .500), and the Bucks and Knicks are tied for last at 3-13 which leaves them only 3.5 games out of the last playoff spot. The West has 10 teams over .500, two at .500, and although we are in last place, our two-game win streak has brought us within 6.5 games of the playoffs!

The reason for the disparity is the West is dominating inter-conference games. The Knicks are 0-7 vs the West. Brooklyn is 3-6. Celtics 1-6. Bucks 0-3. And so on. The only East teams with a winning record vs the West are the two with winning records. If this trend continues it will be hard for us to finish below any Eastern team, because they can *only* beat each other. Although having said that, we've already aided our own cause by going 1-4 against Eastern teams. If we keep that up, the tank can still be saved!

Leastern conference teams are losing to Bestern conference teams because they are not as good. Franklins point is that they get to play each other 3-4 times while we will only play each one twice. That is definitely a tank advatage for us and is probably worth 4-5 games.

Which is almost meaningless, since in each of these games one team will lose as well. Splitting the wins also splits the losses.

Seems like you are missing the point a little bit. Since there are fewer bad teams in the west, that equals fewer wins overall for the bad teams in the west. Since there are more bad teams in the east, that equals more wins overall for teams in the east.

If team (A) plays 60 games against good teams and 22 games against bad teams and team (B) plays 50 games against good teams and 32 games against bad teams then team (A) has a harder time winning the same number of games.

if we went 50/50 with the teams that are currently below .500 in the west we would get 4 wins against those teams the rest of our in conference play may be too difficult for us to go 50/50 with.

If the 76ers goes 50/50 with the teams that are currently below .500 in the east they will pick up 18 wins against those teams.

^Just showing a concept. Not actually saying we can't go 50/50 with some more WC teams.
