That's great - I remember when they got in each other's face at :55 after the game reporters asked Malone what they were talking about and Malone said Grant was asking him where were the good fishing spots in Utah. Hilarious that they get together now in this way.

I'm sure he'd never admit it but Malone was completely gassed out by the Port-Utah series in 99. After playing a condensed schedule and an insane series against Sacramento having to face a defensive specialist 10 years younger than him must have been murder.

I think your memory is a little foggy. Grant played Malone tough but he didn't dominate him. He out played him a few times. However, the great thing about this video is it shows the fun side of Karl and Brian.

Maybe "dominated" was a little too strong of a word, but Brian Grant clearly defended Malone better than any player I can remember in his final 2-3 years with the Jazz. Those playoff series with Portland definitely wouldn't be part of Malone's highlight reels, thats for sure.

Great find, Dala. I didn't know that Grant has Parkinsons, but I knew that Malone is a class act. He's made some obvious mistakes but I think the transgressions of youth played as much a part of that than any lack of class.

I don't remember as dominated -- maybe outplayed him on occasion. But Grant didn't last long, can't remember why now, maybe injury?

Well one thing that helped that is Brian's Parkinsons disease. It's crazy how quick he developed it too.

His knees fell apart and then they traded him to the heat. He was very, very good in Portland. He and sheed were probably the best front court in the leave for a year or two. Those playoff series with the jazz replaced the Houston games in intensity.

During the regular season, in the three years that Grant was with Portland, Malone averaged 23 and 10 in games against Portland, while Grant averaged 10 and 8 against the Jazz.

During the playoffs, the Jazz played Portland in 2 of the 3 years Grant was with the Blazers. In 98-99, Malone averaged 20 and 12, while Grant averaged 13 and 9. In 99-00, Malone averaged 24 and 8, while Grant averaged 7 and 8. Don't forget during these years, Malone was a geezer at an age when a lot of guys are retired, while Grant was in his prime. Grant wasn't in Malone's league let alone dominated him. Malone had plenty of highlights while he was averaging double figure rebounds and scoring in the mid-20s every game against Grant. Give Grant credit for playing hard like Jarron Collins used to do, but Malone absolutely killed him, as he should a player of Grant's caliber despite Malone being in his mid 30s and Grant being in his mid 20s.

Malone did have a game where he went 3-16 FGs and scored 8 points, so that could be what you remember.
