What's new

Gordon Hayward has the consistency of CJ Miles

Hayward and CJ are quite different in their inconsistency though. CJ would have one good game every 5 or 6, for his entire career. On the other hand, Hayward is a streaky shooter to a level that I've never seen. Hayward has 4 month stretches of looking like an all-star, and 4 month stretches of looking pretty bad, and it's basically because of his ridiculously streaky shot.

Just look at his 3pt% year by year since college.

Freshman Butler: 44.8%
Sophomore Butler: 29.4%
Rookie NBA: 47.3%
2nd year NBA: 34.6%
3rd year NBA: 41.5%
Currently: 28.2%

Looks like it's going to happen again this year too. I can't explain it, but it's bad, and at this point it's not just a fluke. It's a serious problem. Maybe he needs to see a sports psychologist or something.

But you gotta remember that Hayward is young if he would have stayed in college he would only be a graduate assistant by now. And John Stockton was still coming off the bench when he was Hayward's age.

This is my official stance on Hayward. I love him at 8 million. I don't think he will get the love from other teams that he thinks he will. No team will want to pay him 12 per, seeing how he can't carry a team or anything close to that, and how the Jazz just might match that. So, I don't think he gets an offer from anywhere else, because the Jazz cap situation is too good. They could match him at max dollars and still be FINE. No cap worries at all. I think he ends up re-signing with the Jazz for 4 years, 36. 9 per.

And I love that.

You put this lineup on the floor:

Burke
Hayward
Parker
Favors
Some FA C that plays awesome defense

with this bench:

Veteran PG
Burks
Marvin
Kanter
Gobert

and we are back in the playoffs next year. Hayward is now the third/fourth option again, and draining threes like he is a young Kyle Korver. We all love him again, and talk about how underpaid he is and how if he was the #1 option, he would be better than Paul George. And we all love each other once again.

I think he must be mentally weak...once things start going bad it takes him forever to get out of that funk. Maybe he should see a sports psychologist, or maybe he should practice more in the offseason? He needs to do something...

Why do we always make comparison for Hayward so drastic and incredibly unattainable? "draining threes like Kyle Korver"? Sorry we'll never see Hayward shoot the ball that well...ever. How about draining threes like David Benoit, Bryon Russell or best case scenario, Jim Les...that's more realistic. NOTE: I know you were using sarcasm, but I just wanted to throw that in.

"bruh" - another trendy word. Nice!

He tries so hard to appear "cool" that it is almost cute.

Much in the same way that aint tried so hard with his ebonics schtick.

Yeah, I was making fun of that jazzfanz trait.

I think Gordon hurt his knee more than he let on, and that he has not been able to figure out how to compensate for it. Unfortunately that is a big part of playing in the NBA. Gotta play hurt.

Hayward shot .415 from three last season. Korver shoots .421 from three for his career. So yeah... Pretty attainable. Hayward is a great spot up shooter, and great when there are other options on the team so he is not the only one drawing defense.

Korver has maintained a 42% accuracy from behind the arc over the course of ELEVEN SEASONS...that is an absolutely amazing feat. Not many players have ever attained that type of accuracy for that long of a period. Players like Larry Bird, Jeff Hornacek, Reggie Miller, Ray Allen, Dirk Notwitzki, are below Korver in terms of career 3PT%. But yeah, go ahead and pick one season from Hayward to convince yourself that he can be as good as Korver from 3.
