What's new

How do the Jazz get this thing back on track?

Tanking doesn't ensure getting a franchise player, therefore we shouldn't even try it .. even though it's our only chance at getting one, and thus our only chance at winning a championship.

Durrrrrrrp

Our only chance? Are you saying Utah has never had a franchise-changing player, or that they tanked to get it?

I'm saying a top pick is by far our best shot at landing a franchise player, especially in this draft.

In this draft, we don't even really seem to need a top (as in top 3) pick.

I agree that we are discussing probabilities. When you evaluate the probabilities, you have to evaluate other factors as well.

Difference between a process and an accomplished state.

However, my word choice could have been better.

Ya i kinda realized that after my post :)

Greg Oden is a franchise-changing player? That's news to me, yet he was picked exactly where the tankers want us to be.

No pick is a guarantee. You are playing the odds while installing bad habits.

Completely disagree. How did tanking hurt SA? GS? Chicago? It didn't. Besides, the Jazz have continually said that they gave Corbin a roster with less talent and are looking for good habits to be forged over this season as to whether or not he keeps his job. They have specifically gone out of their way to show that bad habits won't be tolerated.

No. I came up with that conclusion by looking at history. I'll gladly eat crow when Joel Przybilla, Rodney White, Amare Stoudemire, Mike Sweetney, Andre Iguodala, Ike Diogu, Patrick O'Bryant, Joakim Noah, DJ Augustin, DeMar Derozan, Gordon Hayward, Kemba Walker, and Andre Drummond hoist a championship trophy or become inducted into the HOF though...I promise. Note: Trey Burke might be the exception here... :)

You might as well have eaten that crow 30 years ago when John Stockton was drafted number 16 and the next year Karl Malone was drafted at number 13.

By teaching habits they had to unlearn the next year.

I'd rather have Utah's history and future than Golden State's.

You'd like to have Chicago's team right now?

It didn't. Besides, the Jazz have continually said that they gave Corbin a roster with less talent and are looking for good habits to be forged over this season as to whether or not he keeps his job.

My point exactly.

Yeah, hurt them so much they went 20-62, then drafted Tim Duncan and went 56-26 the next year.

Yeah, another example. 23-43 the tank year. 47-35. Killed them. No growth there at all.

You'd like to have Chicago's team right now?

Very simplistic way to look at it considering Rose is down with an injury. Let me put it this way: Let's say Chicago or LA decided to sit Rose and Kobe for the year and go full blown tank mode, than added Embiid with Rose and Randle with Kobe. That would DESTROY those franchises. My goodness. All the bad things they would have to get over....Come on now.

My point exactly.

Your point was that tanking instilled bad habits. That by tanking, you would be doing things that were bad for your players. That is not true. You can tank, while developing Burke. You do it the way the Jazz have done it. Put as little talent around him that you can't win. See how the guys fight through it. Having Burke step up as a leader, get better defensively and take a couple lumps isn't creating bad habits.

You can tank and progress at the same time.

I actually love this post.

So what assets do you think we can net with a Marvin, RJ, Rush trade?
