What's new

Why is everyone down on Aaron Gordon?

We can fight until the day I die about this, but Gordon can and should play the 3.

He will need to show more from the outside, but, yeah, if he can get that then he would be devastating at the 3 and a matchup nightmare for other 3's in the league. This would be especially true on the Jazz because we have other competent bigs that couldn't be ignored to concentrate on defending Gordon.

Once again.. he doesn't post up as much as he does attack from the perimeter. Live dat lie doe.

Watching his latest set of highlights vs Belmont, he scored from 5 possessions in the post, 5 from the perimeter, of which only one was a jumpshot, twice from the highpost/elbow(Both times taking it off the dribble) and once he got it slashing through the paint.

What was still more present in my memory was his offensive output vs M State:
8 scoring possessions from the low post, 3 times attacking the basket after offensive boards, 1 slash w/o the ball after a rotation and 1 early offense transition drive with the defense not set.

So apparently his offensive distribution may have changed a little...Maybe it's also depending on his defender how he approaches the game.

I feel like we may have had this conversation before.. lol.

He def does the majority of his scoring in the paint. I'm just saying he more often than not attacks from outside than he does receive and entry pass already in the post.

The 2014 Draft is all about instant gratification - Aaron Gordon's career arc is going to resemble Gordon Hayward's - it's gonna take a while and people still probably won't be satisfied.

from naked eyes, he is built like thinner blake griffin. 6ft 8 230lb would be good number for him in nba and gradually bulk up more. i always thought he was legit 6ft 8 barefoot. i didn't think the size was a concern.

but in here he is listed at 6ft 6

and this picture is alarming. he really does look 6f 7 at best.

i guess he grew a little? i've seen 3 zona games, and he looked 6ft 8 barefoot to me, but maybe he really is only about 6ft 7 at best?

gordon definitely has athleticism to play 3, but his offense is such a suspect that it will take much longer for him to develop to be a 3. maybe he needs to just stay 1 more year and develop his game. i'll have to cross my fingers till predraft measurements. i like this kid alot at #8 ish, but i don't want a tweener with no legit position. we don't need that.

Judging from the eye test at the game, I would seriously doubt that he is 6'6" He looks taller than that on the floor. He is REALLY young so I don't suspect that he is done growing. If he grew into 6'10" he would be a monster. The local rag has him at 6'9".

He's almost guaranteed to measure out the same as a Derrick Williams or Michael Beasley. Gordon's trump card is his athleticism, and why I have him at #7. He is not a great athlete, he is a freak athlete.

i certainly hope so. 6ft 10 listed height would help his draft status tremendously.

i'm leaning towards that too. 6ft 7 1/2 at most. and probably will be listed at 6ft 9. beasley was 6ft 7. williams was 6ft 7 1/4.

I haven't been following his progress in the last few weeks, but for me it has been because:
-He's not that good at basketball
-He's not big enough (as a big) to make up for that
-He doesn't have enough perimeter talent (ballhandling, driving, shooting, passing) to be a 3
-He looks like with his size/athleticism/skillset to be less than a franchise player which is unfortunately exactly what this team needs. The Jazz have 5 players across every position that they could say the same thing about and if he's not going to obviously better, then what's to be excited about?

He seems to have very good court vision and has enough speed and handles to play small if he needs to (which Derrick Williams can't) but also can go inside and dominate.

Did you watch Derrick Williams? Why would anyone compare an extremely athletic but short big that isn't good at shooting with a pedestrian athlete that was one of the most efficient (and versatile) scorers in NCAA history?

He looked and played taller than Shawn Kemp Jr. (how many of those are we going to see?) who is also listed at 6'9" although Kemp had a bigger lower torso so he probably weighs more. Arizona's front line towered over Washington, although on paper only Zeus should have. . . So either Washington's press guide is exaggerating (happens) or Gordon is on the plus side of 6'7".
