Racism and privilege

Stop being wrong.

You'd have to be able to state my position before you could meaningfully say its wrong. So far, all you have done is attribute to me what I don't believe, and you've been doing that for years now. Since you don't know what I've been saying, you have no idea if its wrong or not.

When I said I would't miss you if you stopped posting in this thread, I meant it. I don't think our communication on this subject would be any worse if you were deliberately trying to misunderstand. So, unless I see some sign of improvement in that communication, I'm basically writing you off in this discussion.

Yes, I'm aware you will continue to post irrelevant drivel not connected to what i'm saying. I expect no change from you.

An article on a study about how care-givers assign different levels of stigma based on word choice:

https://commonhealth.wbur.org/2013/12/language-substance-abuse-addiction

Just the difference between using "disorder" and "abuse" changed the judgment of professionals in the field of substance issues. How much more would such word choices affect non-professionals?

This is offered to highlight how the small signals we don't notice influence our initial judgments and perceptions.

maybe this was answered at some point, I'm not sure...

but if you worked for an employer who, for whatever reason, requested that you refrain from saying Merry Christmas to customers (or some other religiously significant greeting) and instead use the more generic Happy Holidays, would you have a hissy fit about it?

(OK, maybe hissy fit is not a good phrase, I'm not sure - if you're offended by my use of that term, I'm sorry. Now I may have to look it up. If you have an alternative to suggest that would mean essentially the same thing, let me know. Thanks.)

I have plenty of coworkers still up in arms that they changed it from Christmas party to awards function 12 long years ago. They preach that "we are no longer a Christian nation", while I think "they left Europe to get away from your catholic plague".

I can't wait for this god forsaken holiday to be over.
