Following potential 2014 draftees

They said that there was no real superstar besides maybe Embiid in this draft. They are basically saying the draft is over rated.

Of course this draft is overrated, that is what the media does and after building up these guys they spend a few months tearing them down. Besides I doubt this discussion would be happening if the Lakers had the worse record. ESPN has become so full of themselves with their emphasis on entertainment instead of the sport. They want Wiggins, Parker to end up in Chicago or LA and not Milwaukee or Utah.

Okay maybe we have a different definition of superstar. But superstar is someone who's got the potential to be a first option on a mediocre to good team or 2nd 1st option on a contender.
2006: Chris Paul, Deron Williams
2008: Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love
2009: Blake Griffin, James Harden

Deron Williams fits into the category of a couple all-star/allnba appearances. Same with Russell Westbrook, Love, and Blake. They are not superstars. Your data proves my point further. Lebron, Paul, wade, Garnett, these are superstars.

Right now Deron Williams fits the category of T-Mac. Would have could have injury bug. But I honestly disagree with your assessment. Love has a monster offensive output(2nd both in points and rebounds) and if Melo is a superstar then Love is just as much(when healthy).
Wade IMO is no superstar. He's good but overhyped. His body is completely washed since some time. He had a lucky punch assisted by refs in 2006. But after that his teams didn't do much and he spent a lot of time injured until LeBron came to town. So your definition doesn't fit the player you sort into it. Same with Garnett. W/o big three he didn't do much his last years in Minny. But the way you present yourself I don't see you being open for arguments.

Garnett has 1 MVP, 15 all-star. 9 allnba. If that isn't a superstar, what is?

Did you see the post where I laid out my categories? The average draft: 1 bust, 1 repeating all NBA (star), 2-3 guys make a few all-star/allnba, 6-10 solid staters/sixth man (Marvin), 10-15 roleplayers, 20 people gone in 3 years, 15 DNP.

Liking the discussion going on here, haven't been replying or anything but it's definitely interesting seeing other guys points of views on other players.

Figured you guys would appreciate this, made it a day ago. Sub if you like!

I'm just saying that I stopped being impressed by Garnett when he started to age. I think w/o Pierce and Allen he'd have died in Minnesota w/o making the Playoffs again. But it's of course easy to deflect the criticism I directed at you and instead counter ;)
Dirk for example lifts his team single handedly into the playoffs in a more competitive era. Thing is Garnett would help you get stops, but he wouldn't be such a mismatch offensively that everyone around him would shoot 3% better than they'd usually do. So he needed guys to take care of the offense so his defense would be a real asset.

FWIW I think garnett and dirk were both superstars

Yes I think so too, but he's excluding a lot of guys I think are right up there like Blake Griffin and Russell Westbrook they'll continue their high level to cement that. Instead he says Dwyane Wade is a superstar whose knee allows him to play once a week. Not even Pop could manage his minutes for him to play consistently.
His definition of superstar seems to be like "being a top5 player in the league at least 1 year". With today's depth in top talent I totally think that's wrong. That's 90s mentality when the league had no idea what they were doing with their CBA and let the players dictate them everything.

honestly it all depends on the team. if the team has the capable scorer than no doubt you take KG. the discrepancy between KG & dirk's defense is much greater han their O. kg's defense was just nasty. KG still gave you 22-24pts, but he would give you top 3 defense. KG was long as hell with the speed and stamina to play every damn minutes. and dat intensity yo.

but if the team is offensively challenged, then i can dirk being preferred.

anyway we need to look very hard at nick staukas in the 2nd round. dude has a long range, improved his handle, and drastically improved his court vision. he could come in and immediately be our 3pt specialist.
