What's new

Another school shooting...

I'm just thinking out loud here....

What are doing wrong raising kids today? People want to make the issue guns, but I figure that the percentage of the population that has ready access to guns is about the same today as it was 20 years ago, and probably less than it was 50 or 100 years ago. So why is mass shooting prevalent today?

It's not like there weren't bullies 20 years ago or 50, heck I figure as long as the earth has had at least two men on it there has probably been a bully of sorts.

And why shoot up other kids? Why not adults, or why not shoot up the school building as a symbol of an institution that they feel has wronged them?

These kids have everything they could ever need and most things they could want and it is not enough. Why?

I just don't get it.

Who said anything about unqualified? I don't think the aim would be to pass out 9's when they get their teaching certificate but to have them allowed go through the training and process to get an open or concealed carry permit, as allowed by their state. I don't think that would necessarily be a bad idea, at least worth thinking about.

Everyone that drives on the road has passed the driver's test, and yet a lot drive like idiots sometimes. Extrapolate this to guns... I'd rather have the schools employ armed security personnel than arming the teachers.

Kids these days!

That all i got.... i dont understand it either.
Maybe its because they have so much in todays society and so spoiled that they think that everything should be perfect and cant handle dissappointment

They want to cause the most damage and that's why a lot of them choose schools. An example is if the Sandy Hook office had guns they could have taken out that douche bag before he ever got to the classrooms.

Also most shooters want to end their own lives on their own terms. So as soon as police or anyone engages them they usually just off themselves. They don't want to give anyone the satisfaction of them getting killed.

Wow, anecdotal evidence at its finest. I'm going to assume you're not a psychologist studying the field of school shootings, right? Everything you just said there was pure conjecture, not worth wiping a baby's *** with.

Good point

It was a horrible point. It wasn't a point at all, actually.

The same can be said for pilots carrying guns. I am happy they are now allowed to carry guns. It makes me feel safer on a flight. Having this done before 9/11 would have easily foiled that plot.

Right. I don't know about you, but when I'm 30,000 feet in the air in a pressurized metal coffin, I am reassured knowing that someone is on board with a gun that can blow a good sized hole into said coffin. I'm sure we'll all make it out alive at that point. Hooray for little 02 baggies that fall from the ceiling! Give them a tazer and call it a day. Guns are for morons, yo. (just like rap)

This is also a good idea, I think most parents would choose to just have one less teacher in order to afford that.

Haha, wow. I would bet half my Kingdom that not even 10% of Utahns would choose that option.

Some people won't like my "religious" response or whatever but it really isn't religious. It plain and simple to me. Its breakdown of family relationships. Constant divorce, parental fighting, just plain and simple lazy and ****ty parents.

You will be hard pressed to find a violent child that comes from a loving family with two supportive parents.

I was so "hard pressed" that it was the very first link on teh Google: https://news.yahoo.com/neighbors-says-nev-school-shooter-had-good-family-193720638.html

Again, conjecture and stupidity. Why not do a little research before typing, or better yet, just don't post?

BTW how about "the other" shooting, the one in Tampa. "A good guy with a gun" eh? Arm everyone with guns and situations like this are more likely to happen.

Just want to say that i came from the best family situation imaginable and i was a very violent teenager (anger management at 19 years old helped alot) and constantly in trouble/breaking laws.

Sometimes there is nothing a parent can do.
Though i agree that a good family situation is more likely to raise a good kid than a bad family situation.

I do know a guy whos dad was dealing cocaine and meth when he was a young teen and the dad would have his 14 year old son drive him around while the dad sold drugs.... and the kid turned out really good

I do believe these are probably more often exceptions than the norm however

Good guys don't shoot innocent people. Smh

Well, see, that's exactly the catch. Adam Lanza was a good guy until the very moment he pulled the trigger and blew his mom's brains out. Gun rights people maintain that good guys are to stop the bad guys when they go on rampage. However this guy was a former police officer, a captain. Started the SWAT team at his department and was director of security for Busch Gardens. Then he goes to the movies and kills a guy over texting. He WAS a good guy until he pulled that damn trigger
