What's new

So Memo went through a full practice today........

Big Al is any better than Okur defensively? I think he does a fine job in the half court. A pretty good man to man defender, But not much of a help defender. A Millsap-Jefferson-Okur-Fes frontline is a pretty decent matchup against LA, with AK guarding Odom part of the time. The Millsap at SF matched up against Artest is also not a bad idea.

Memo can rebound pretty well when he wants to. He's big enough to be solid on the defensive boards. That's where he can make the biggest contribution off the bat.

Really? I have no desire to see Millsap at the SF position ever again unless it's against the Laker's and Ron Artest(whom I believe Millsap could guard). He's not fast enough, He's not a good perimeter defender, and He's just not a SF. Offensively your lineup would work but defensively it would leak like a sieve.

When was the last time Millsap played SF? I think he could guard half the SFs in the league. Most of them aren't going to punish him.

If they can shoot or drive (which most can) then he has little chance at stopping them. If they can do both he would get torched. For example Ariza (SF from tonight) would be a real problem for Millsap.

I enjoyed listening this podcast in which Phil Johnson talks about the Jazz's overall performance and the recovery process of Memo and the possible line-up changes when he comes back.

To me, it looks like coaches also have a standpoint of wait and see just because we still are far from figuring out what Millsap-BigAl duo is capable of doing together, what is their peak in this system and because we do not know how Memo will come back at all. I'm pleased with BigAl's overall performance against Hornets. He seemed to be a lot more comfortable with what he is assigned to do and he did a real good job passing the ball. He still has to make big strides in help defense and rebounding but I believe he works hard and becomes more and more accustomed to playing in this system.

On the other hand, it is obvious as hell that the Jazz has struggled big time with floor spacing, court spreading, rebounding, boxing out, three point shooting. All of them are highly related to the absence of Okur, as Deron after NOH game pointed out. Okur's presence on the court makes this sytem much more efficient. Deron's presence is important for Okur and we have a guy named CJ Miles, who feels like he has green light to shoot it anytime he wants. CJ might be the most talented, versatile player in this roster and he has had some big games for us but his shot selections and forcing the game instead of letting the game, positions come to him might be proven costly. Watson-CJ-Memo looks balanced on the paper but it will surely take time for those to build a chemistry which some way will turn into an efficient and balanced attack.

I would rather stick with BigAl-Paul if they overcome some deficiencies and struggles they have shown and bring Memo off the bench. Memo is older than both of those two and playing Memo 30+ mins certainly will not help him in playoffs. Also, at the end of the games, in crunch time, you would rather have a rested Memo if you have to make some substitutions. You have the depth and you should use it to sustain the momentum and health condition of your team so that it is as healthy and strong as possible come playoff time.
