The OFFICIAL don't draft Joel Embiid thread

Who ever said that Ibaka or Bynum were his best case scenario? Everything I have seen says that Hakeem is his best case scenario. Not only that, but an uninjured and motivated Bynum was on track to be Shaq. That is one hell of a player.

You must not be old enough to have seen Hakeem play. The man put up quadruple doubles.

Gobert.. Plays less than 5 minutes a game

Dwight Howard... Not 7 feet

NIkola Vucecic....

Chris Kaman.... Again, does not play

Tim Duncan...

Jason Smith... lol

Dirk....

Anthony Davis... not 7 feet

Tyson Chandler... Chronically injured

Andrew Bogut... Chronically injured

Joakim Noah... Chronically injured

Omer Asik....

Alex Len...

I'm getting bored....tell me if you want more....

Lets hear about seven footers who play like Tim Duncan, or have the athletic ability that Embiid has.

All you did was bold stuff about his upside and potential, wish does nothing to prove how he's more 'polished.'

That blurb is also propaganda.

A hall of fame coach called him "one of the most dominating players in NCAA history".....

He was one season away from the all time leader in blocked shots in college basketball....

How dumb and blind are you?....Thabeet was supposed to be the next great big man in the NBA.

Haha I was responding to your statement that said this?

Plenty of 7 footers huh? If there are plenty of them, why don't you go ahead and tell us who they are?

I will get you started:

Timmy, The Gasol's, The Lopez brother, and the list drops off from there to Bynum, Oden, etc.

So now that I shut you down you want to change the topic? All these players are athletes and have amazing skill....... that's why they are in the NBA. Most of them were also dominant in the NCAA or European leagues.

1. He was one of the most dominating defensive players in NCAA history. Dude was a super long, space eater, and not much else.

2. It was his own coach...

He was one season away from the all time leader in blocked shots in college basketball....
and? Take a look at Embiid's fluidity, footwork, touch, feel on offense. Thabeet was basically the NCAA equivalent of Mark Eaton, which doesn't work in the athletic environment of the NBA today.

********. He was a reach in a one-player draft.

The comparison is terrible. The two players are nothing alike. Thabeet never scored or rebounded (on a per minute basis) as well as Embiid has so far this season. Thabeet never showed any real offensive or athletic ability.

Honestly Jim, just watch one of the Kansas games that TSN always airs (because of Wiggins). You'll quickly realize that this dude isn't Sene, or Thabeet.

Ok. Watched highlights of two more games. He's better than Thabeet. He actually put the ball down once and shot outside the paint once. He's still not someone I can see being a first option on a good team.

Also, even if Embiid reaches pB]his best case scenario(Ibaka or Bynum)[/B]

That's not his best case scenario.

isn't the whole purpose of the tank to get a number one option because we currently don't have one? How would drafting a complimentary player help the Jazz? I mean, even Dwight Howard has turned out to be simply a nice complimentary player, and we should spend our number one pick on the second coming of Serge Ibaka?

It's because big-men with a) elite post-moves b) elite defense c) superb passing skills are MUCH more than a complimentary player. Players with those 3 facets are the players that build dynasties-- and despite the fact that they might have formidable bust-potential, that's why you keep a close eye on them, and swing for the fences if you manage to get a chance at them. Name 3 big-men currently in the NBA who can claim to have those traits. Ibaka doesn't NEARLY have the court-vision that Embiid does (watching Kansas games, and not highlights would help you realize this). Love has great vision, poor defense. Blake has okay passing, good scoring, but poor defense. Duncan is almost retired. Notice the trend? Even Kanter and Favors, if they manage to secure both categories (unlikely) will never have Embiid's vision.

One player? He was picked over James Harden, Ricky Rubio and Stephen Curry. Two of the guys are top 10 players in the league right now. If not top 5...

His ceiling is hakeem olijuwan.
Is hakeem a complimentary player

Ah, nothing quite like knocking down strawmen. I'm asking for proof of his offensive ability, and you'd think you'd be able to do that. Whether you believe that will sway me or not is not the point. Provide proof, then worry about that.

He didnt say he couldnt show you proof..... he said he doesnt need or want to.
