The OFFICIAL don't draft Joel Embiid thread

1. Who has what traits in the NBA matter little here.

Laughable.
Embiid does not play in the NBA nor has he tested himself against proper opposition. College basketball is several levels below NBA. It's amateur basketball. You cannot claim Embiid has NBA-level elite anything.

Please quote me, and let me know where I ever said that Embiid has an elite-NBA skill in any category.

2. Aside from elite college defense, I haven't seen any of the other things. He averages a little more than an assist a game, so I suppose maybe I'm asking too much when I try and find video of his superb passing.

Take at Olajuwon's assist numbers in his freshmen year at college. My point: assist numbers are not indicative of court-vision, particularly when you are not a team's first option on offense, and the offense doesn't run through yourself specifically.

Again, I reiterate: follow Kansas on college this year, if you want to have a good idea of Embiid as player.

Olajuwon also averaged 8.3 PPG in college in his freshmen year (while averaging 2.5 BPG), 13.9 PPG in his sophomore year, and then peaked at at 16.8 in his junior year.

Should we have casted away Olajuwon as a nobody after his frosh year cuz he couldn't assert himself as a first option, and he had history of playing soccer/didn't play basketball for a good portion of his life?

Hakeem also played on a stacked team and posted crazy numbers straight away. But I'll tell you what. If Joel Embiid leads his team to an NBA finals in his second season and puts up 24-12-3-2-2 a game doing it, I will fly out to wherever fishonjazz lives and eat his *****.

Hey jim
Go to you tube and look up joel embiid dream shake.
Very much like hakeem

But im sure your are not trying to hard to find something positive in the videos you watch since you dont ever want to see someone elses side of a discussion

Also notice who the announcer compares embiid to "very olijuwanesque"

Like i said before..... your 7 footers list has lots of good players on it....
Only makes embiid look more likely to be good

Most players that stick in the NBA are good........whats your point?

The original discussion was that being a 7 footer in the league was rare.....which its not....I would dare say every team has a 7 footer on their roster.

The list of 7 footers that busted in the league would take me forever to type up.

My point is that just because you are 7 ft tall doesn't mean you are automatically successful in the NBA. Not by a long shot.

You talked about his elite skills, which I took to be implication that it would have something to do with his NBA career. If you're talking about him being elite at college level, that has nothing to do with anything. Elite skills from college translate to the NBA...how often exactly?

So what height does automatically make you successful in the nba.

Also who said he will be good just cause he is 7 feet?

Hakeem also played on a stacked team and posted crazy numbers straight away.

Oh really? I'm pretty sure he red-shirted in 1981, barely played as a redshirt AGAIN in 1982, before finally breaking out as a solid player in their roster in 1983. Houston was 6th in the Mid-East in 1982 (though they made it far in MM) and not worthy of mentioning in 1981.

No one is saying that Embiid will be Olajuwon.
