What's new

But...like really.....how the **** are we gonna get a star?

And all it really takes is tanking a few key games. Really. I get that it's hard to assemble a team that wins a championship. We've tried that for a couple decades now. But how ******* hard is it to lose. Really?

When there are teams like the Sixers out there it's pretty ****ing hard.

Utah still has a much better homecourt than most tanking teams. I think Utah ranks something like 19th in ticket sales, which isn't great, but I'm nearly positive is great for the bottom 10 teams.

Our talent is way better. Just look at the past Sixers game. Hayward was outplaying their entire team and he was shooting 33% from the field. Burks didnt even look like he was trying that hard and he dominated their wings and finish around all of their bigs.

I really like Burks and think he will be a fine scorer for us but, IMO, he's a lot like Corey Maggette. Both good and bad.

Maggette was always on **** teams though. Burks could be Maggette reborn on a playoff team.

But from the FO end they need to be hamstringing this. People think tanking hard would be too extreme but I think they lack some simple foresight of what's at stake. These people, 6 years in the future, will look back and say, "lolz we could have never been in that position" when the argument will frequently come up about how we should have tanked harder because those 3-4 games really cost us (as fans) and the ownership (in a decade of $$$) a pretty large amount.

I made that comparison right from the start. I love Burks off the bench. Maggette was always getting a ton of FT's. Burks can absolutely dominate 2nd units. I'm not hitting the panic button yet, but I think it is obviously time to consider packaging Kanter if there's a team that is desperate for a big. Utah has a hidden gem in Gobert. He and Favors can anchor the middle. Need a stretch-4 and a SF who can hit some shots. I seriously doubt the 9+Kanter+GS pick is enough to move into the top-3 or 4. That's trying to get a franchise player for three guys who may never make an all-star team. Just not enough value there.

We also have a hidden gem in Kanter.

If it's so easy to tank for the Jazz, isn't it just as easy for the other teams? I mean, right now, we're ahead of the Lakers and the Sixers, whom we just played. Suppose our FO rested whomever the pro-tank crew believes is leading us to victory this week(I can't keep track, you people keep changing your mind...Jefferson, Marvin, Hayward, Burks). What the hell is stopping the Sixers, who want a top-3 pick just as hard, from resting whatever players they have?

The draft is the only way we get a star. But the last five lottery picks on the Jazz appear to have netted only these elite skills: Favors' defense and Burks' finishing ability and knack to get to the FT line. That's it. I realize this draft is projected to be very good, but some or even many of these guys are going to turn out to be meh talents... just like the lottery guys we already have.

The Rockets were able to get Harden because of a glacier-sized amount of good luck in addition to years and years of dutifully going after anything that looked like a marquee player. I get that the Jazz keep everything hush-hush, but I never get the impression that that's something they have done, do, or will do in the future.

The answer to your question is I hope that Dennis Lindsey is white Jesus and/or the Jazz get really, really lucky in the lottery. Or whatever.

It wouldnt matter since we have zero games over the next week. I think they will rest the whole team. :-)
