We are at the all star break so i figure this is a good time to evaluate our rosters individual production versus our own expectations for each of them.

Trey Burke: I thought he would be a below average to average caliber starting point guard and when he first came back from injury i thought he was going to exceed my expectations by quite a bit, but recently has come back down to right about what i expected. Grade B.

Gordon Hayward: I thought he is a decent starting player for most teams, right around the 3rd or 4th best player in a starting lineup, and he has been a little bit worse than i expected but not by much. He is passing, defending and rebounding pretty well and struggling shooting wise due to his role. Grade C

RJ: I thought he was done and he has shown that he has quite a bit of gas left in the tank. Grade A-

Marvin: After last season i thought he was pretty bad and he has found his niche in the league as a stretch four and has flourished in that role. Grade B+

Favors: I expected quite a bit more from him and thought his contract was a steal. He is scoring less than i had hoped, rebounding less, and blocking less shots than i exptected.... my expectation were probably way too high. Grade: C-

Alec Burks: I thought he would be a good starter if given the minutes and opportunities and he is averaging right about what i expected across the board and percentage wise as well. Grade B

Jeremy evans: I always thought he was a rotation player and could have a good impact on the team but his jumpshot has been better than i thought it would be. Grade B+

Enes Kanter: I thought he would lead the team in scoring and rebounding and play ok defense. Biggest disappointment for me, but my expectations were probably way too high for both kanter and favors. Grade D

Rudy Gobert: He is about what i expected. A tall dude who blocks and alters shots and does little else. I have been impressed with his attitude and how he seems to have some "nastiness". Grade B

Diante Garrett: I thought he would be horrible and had really low expectations of him. Now i think he will stick in the nba and could be a solid backup for us for years to come. Grade A

Corbin i give a C grade.

If judging on performance vs. expectation:

Burke: C-.
If C=average on the grading scale, then I think he's been average running the team, but way below in terms of his shooting.

Hayward: D+
Has proved he's not capable of having the offense run through him while also maintaining his shooting %. Again, this grade is solely based on performance vs. expectation. Overall, I'd grade him out as a C+. Bad time to have his worst year.

RJ: A- Expected nothing, has given the Jazz too much.

MW: B+. Hot streak as the stretch-4 has boosted his value. Possibility he may be brought back next season.

Favors: C. Hasn't stepped up like we hoped.

Burks: A. Has shown he can be a starter or an eventual contender for the NBA's 6th man award.

Evans: A-. Again, grade is based on performance vs. expectation. Don't see him as being that valuable to the team going forward, but nice to have for depth.

Kanter: D-. A few good outings have saved him from an F. I'm actually more excited to see Gobert come in than Enes. Haven't given up on him completely, but he's fast approaching bust status.

Gobert: A-. Knew he was a project, but he's improved faster than expected.

Garrett: A. Agree with fishonjazz. He's surprised at time vis a vis expectations. Should be allowed to battle Neto next season for backup PG (and kept as the 3rd over Lucas). At least when Garrett comes in, Jazz don't immediately fold like they did with Lucas or Tinsley.

Corbin: A+. When nothing is expected, any contribution is "over and above." Very impressed by the way he dresses. Looks every bit the part of a successful coach. And to not even be the first one fired...well, that says a lot. (SARCASM ALERT!).
In all seriousness, he was given one marching order by Lindsey: have the team improve defensively. Jazz really haven't done that IMO. And he certainly hasn't shown anything surprising in terms of the offense. C- (tbh, maybe a bit generous).

Burke: C+. For a rookie pg he's been pretty stable, only potential all-star pg shoot over 40% in their rookie years. A few things make me question his ceiling, mainly his lack of being able to get to the rim.

Hayward: B. Hayward has been a great player. It's not really fair to judge him only on his shooting %. He does so much more then that. I expected his %'s to be lower with the situation that he's been put into, mainly how he's forced to create shots for himself instead of the offense giving him shots.

RJ: A. He's shown to still have something left in him, I don't really care, he'll be gone next year.

MW: B. He's gotten back to his career averages and his 3pt % has gone up due to him play the 4 position. This was expected of him.

Favors: A. He's been our most consistent player and has anchored our defense. When he is out with injury his presence is severely missed, this could be largely due to a lack of reserves though.

Burks: A. He has improved the most out of the young guys for me. He accepts role and doesn't complain. I'd like to see what he can do in the starting lineup, though his stats might go down a little.

Evans: B. He's shown that he can be a great 20 minute player of the bench. Gives energy, can throw it down, eventually will be able to hit 3's. His jumper has been very consistent, which is great for the kick outs.

Kanter: C. People are being way to hard on Kanter, I almost wish he would be traded somewhere where the coaches actually focused on him, he would be a very good player. His situation here has been pretty bad. Remember that he is only 21, he'll improve.

Gobert: C. Not much to judge him on. He makes his presence known, I like his fiery attitude, but he still has a long way to go.

Garrett: C. He's shown that he can play basketball in the NBA, but best used as a 3rd pg.

Luke: A. He's a stud of a person and I'm sure he's really helping our team in the locker room. Basketball is another question...

Beans: A. He's got a nice comb over.

Thomas: -. Not enough info on him...

Ian: B. I've really liked what I've seen from him in most of the limited time. He seems to have great speed, defense awareness, and shooting ability. I would love to see him get some time if Jefferson was traded as the backup.

Corbin: Meh, he's been average as a coach. He really just doesn't have any identity or anything he in forces. It looks like he tries to model himself after Sloan, but he doesn't make any adjustments. Most of the time he just sticks to what seems to work for him. C.

Trey Burke: C-. I too didn't expect much from Trey when he came back, but he blew me away (although when he was playing exceptionally well, the main facilitator on the team was still GH). Now, I am kind of concerned about his judgement/selfishness. I wish he'd pass more, especially considering he isn't a good shooter, and he has very little driving skills. I really like his skills in the PnR, though. His defense is hit and miss (on one hand he shot down John Wall, and then he's blown to smitherines by Steph Curry and MCW, etc.) He needs to learn how to get to the FT line. To summarize: C- for low assist games, no driving skills, poor shooting, and poor defense.

Gordon Hayward: B or B-. If this was based on shooting percentage, I'd give him an F. He's really improved his rebounding and playmaking skills, but I think I liked him more in the spot up shooter/fast break beast that he was last year. Still think he is a legit #2 guy on a contender. I don't think we can say he isn't that when we don't have a real #1 to alleviate the pressure that defenses are putting on him. Still think he's dealing with hip injury (based on his performance and things Corbin has said). He was in a slump, then he got going and put together some really good games, then got injured, and when he came back he had one nice game, and since then he's struggled. I'd like to see him moved to SF post All Star break, with Alec at the 2 to see if his shooting percentages get better.

RJ: B. Yes, he is better than expected, but defensively he gets burned a lot. Good 3 PT shooter, but I don't think that should make him a starter. Those are Alec's minutes!

Marvin: B. I wrote a post on here before the start of the season about how I though Marvin would flourish on this team (based on the games he succeeded in last year were games when either Al or Paul was out), as of late he's been proving me right. Definitely worth MLE, but I wouldn't cry if he got traded at the deadline for a late first rounder (unlikely). Yes, he has flourished offensively as stretch 4, defensively he's consistently outmatched. I think he'd have similar success offensively at the 3 (no Al, Mo, and Randy hogging the ball), but would also be stellar defensively there.

Favors: B-. I expected a lot more defensively from him. Yes, we are better when he plays, and his impact is shown, but some games he just doesn't seem engaged. He doesn't seem to harness his potential and utilize it as often as he should. He'll do something beastly on one possession, and then take the next few off. His rebounding is up and down. He has the ability dominate the glass, but some games he just doesn't go after them.

Enes: B-. Defensively, he is slow and lost a lot of times, granted. I am being lenient on him because he's been jerked around his whole career, and was denied an offseason of training and preparing his body due to injury. I STILL BELIEVE! I think he needs the green light to drift out to the perimeter though. Some possessions he'll run the floor on fast breaks, and then other times he is the last person up the court (again, this could be due to his lack of offseason training and physical preparedness). His areas for improvement are: passing, running the floor, boxing out, using his peripheral vision to stay aware of what's happening both offensively and defensively.

Evans: A. Dude has been awesome. If only he was given a thicker body, he'd be unstoppable. He's another player I don't believe is a PF (anymore at least). He can't guard the majority of PF's in this league (by this I mean contain. When he gets pushed around, he's been able to compensate athletically and come up with some blocks) , but he is so long, fast, athletic, and has a nice jump shot now, that I think he'd make a great SF (think we should try it).

Alec: B or B+. He's got an elite skill. Some games the opposing defenses are wise to him and are able to shut him down (and this is where he needs to learn how to read the situation and make the pass when the double team comes, or lanes are too clogged, before the defense resets as he overdribbles).

Garret: B. For a dude from the D League, he's been pretty legit int hat backup role all year long.

Gobert: B. Dude is going to be great. His length is awesome, and he knows how to use it. He is also a good rebounder, even though he gets pushed around when boxing out. If he added some wieght to his frame and learned how to really hold his ground, he'd grab every board. Needs to spend the offseason catching passes in the post and working on a hook shot. Very excited about what he can become.

Corbin: D-. If his assignment was to win as many games as he could with this roster, I'd be impressed with what he's done with our roster when healthy, but since it wasn't, I'm not impressed. His two assignments were defense and player development. Defensively we have our moments, but we're still far from where we need to be. Player development is impossible for players when they don't play (Burks off the bench playing less than 30, Kanter being jerked around playing less than 25, Gobert playing very little, Clark playing nothing, and Evans is getting more minutes than he he has in the past, but they are at the PF where he gets injured. Evans should play SF where his body can handle the wear and tear). Burks looks better this year, but how much of that is due to Corbin's handling of him? Could it have been his dedication in the offseason, his visit to Stockton, and just overall maturity? Evans has a jumpshot this year, but Corbin didn't teach him that, he learned that in the offseason at the gym my grandpa works out at (no lie).

No grades of Luke, Beans, Thomas or Ian?

Luke: A+ for photography. He must have compromising pictures somewhere. How else to explain his presence on the team, let alone why he's still in the NBA.

Beans: Incomplete. Sighting him in a game is like spotting Bigfoot. It's rare.

Thomas: He's like the kid who comes to school because his parents moved to the neighborhood right after Christmas. Glad they've found him a locker and a seat. Sure hope the others are being nice to him.

Ian: A+ for summer league. C- afterwards. Chose a fantastic time to get hot. He created a bidding war and cashed in. My advice to him is to invest his $ and not waste it on extravagant living. He may not see the same size contract ever again.
