If I was the coach I would make both Burks and Burke keep setting picks and screens (ala vintage Stockton) until they darn well learned how to USE a screen to score or at least break free of their defender. Learning to do that is part of the missing piece both need to get to the next level.
 
I looked up burks shot chart from last night on the utah jazz app.

10 of his 14 shot attempts were in the paint right at the hoop.

Dude is probably one of the best in the league at getting to the rim and either scoring or drawing fouls/getting to the line. I don't think he's going to be a star but I believe he is AS important as Hayward if not likely more.

WHat happens when teams start game planning to stop his one-dimensional scoring attack? You want Burks in that ISO role with no offensive movement? I don't.

Alec needs to develop a triple threat position (among other things). Then we'll begin talking alpha dog.

I also don't say that others play better defense or stuff. Burks assists are created through misdirection plays, by doing a seemingly bad move, then with the help of the screener capitalizing on the defense doing what's predicted and finding the hole. Plus Harden plays 10 more mins, so fatigue is a bigger factor for him.
I don't know I just wanna see Burks playing consistent and playing smart and playing efficient. If he can do that for 1 season. Then I'm talking about throwing money at him. Per NBA.com's player tracking data, he has an eFG% of .618 in catch and shoot opportunities (.453 3FG%), which is second on the team behind Diante (who's also starting to look like a passable backup 1). Synergy Sports has him at 1.06 Points per possession on spot ups (.458 3FG%). Pretty impressive numbers. I suspect his overall 3FG% is as low as it, at least in part, because he shoots a lot of last second deep 3s (Synergy Sports has him shooting and missing 14 3s listed under "All Other Plays"). If he were used as an off-ball player more, hanging out in the corner, he could conceivably get his 3FG% up in the 37-40% range (or higher?). Dude's a keeper; hopefully the Jazz can lock him up this summer.

I've said this all along:

Alec Burks is a lock for sixth man of the year, but I don't want him starting on my team.

I want Burks on the Jazz, and I'd give him 8 per before I'd give Hayward 12 per. I just don't want him starting.

You do realize that a lot of his minutes come against bench players and that teams aren't focusing on him, right? Do you honestly think his great numbers will continue when teams key off on him and he is playing against starters?
