What's new

Alec has taken over as our alpha dog.

So burks plays better against bad defenses than good ones

I can agree with that

Good detective work cyrone

Another thing i have noticed is that burks flourishes when given the ball at the end of games and told to attack.

I love it when jazz bring the ball up court and then look for burks and force the ball into his hands and then clear out and let him go to work.
Thats when he seems to be at his best.

Small sample size (only 3 games so far) but he has looked great every time he has been in that situation.

Just for cyrone: maybe when he gets in that situation against a great defense he will struggle.
I cant wait to find out!

Kind of like that play towards the end of the game where Burks tried to Euro-step against Blatche and Blatche ripped him? Burks wasn't able to recognize that Blatche had adjusted his defense and play back on the PNR, keeping himself between Burks and the basket. Burks has Marvin wide open in the corner but doesn't recognize, gets stripped, leads directly to a big JJ 3-pointer (because Burks didnt hustle back on defense) which shifts momentum to the Nets. Was honestly the defining moment of the game.

If you have it DVR'd it happens at 4:24

During Burks infamous "best game" without Hayward, most his scoring was off assists (5), fast breaks (2), and out of bounds plays (2). The only time your alpha created his own shot was against Randy Foye and Denver's porus defense without JaVale (How horrible was J.J. Hickson that game?).

Corbin obviously made it a point of emphasis to attack Foye (i.e. final play) and deserves most the credit for Burks' big numbers.

You are right frank
Burks weakness is that he cant create his own shot and his strength is playing off ball and getting passes from teammates.

Good call

Which is where I want to see the most improvement from Burks. If he can't improve that awareness to know when to kick it, he will never be more than a good scorer, in my eyes.

Yep. He made a bad play just like all the great ones do.

He made more good plays at the end of the game however

It was a bad play that he often makes though. He gets tunnel vision and it is what holds him back from being as good as Hayward.

But you clearly said "has looked great every single time in that situation", that statement was clearly false.

Detective Cyrone on the case.

So I went into the play by play again.
starting from the play right before burks turnover.
Burks scores 9 points in the last 5 minutes, has 2 rebounds, an assist, and a turnover.

Pretty good imo

I know everyone has different opinions on everything related to the Jazz, but can't we agree that Burks has shown the most growth this season of the core guys? I've always been a big Burks fan and am excited for how he has been playing.
Is he an all star? No way. His defense isn't great and his game isn't as diverse as we'd like. I would love for him to get a 3 point shot and be a better passer. But remember this dude is 22, is getting more minutes than ever and was picked up 12th in the draft. Its easy to pick a bust at #12.
Lets not hate on him, and just enjoy his improvement and what he can bring to the team

1:51 left in the game burks drive and kicks to marvin for a bucket. Burks with the assist.
